Aaah yes! I've looked at this one a few times in your gallery, keep going back to it as I like it very much. I love the colours and tones -and the silhouette is a real beauty with the pose, posture and clothing - right down to the hat.

A couple of small points you might like to consider .. the horizon isn't quite level, needs a slight rotation ccw by maybe about 0.5.

The other point is that some may feel it might be better if the figure was slightly further to the left, thus giving him/her more space to walk into/towards. However, that dosn't especially concern me as I like the current composition which shows his/her reflection in the water, also shows some good water feature as the sea washes over the sand.

Altogether very nice - definitely one of the best, if not THE best in your gallery imo.

Actually Pol, I like the figure to the right - it says he/she is leaving the scene, which is the kind of feel I get.

The horizon does need straightening as Pol suggests.

Tinka, is this a mono shot? It's also quite cyan - was that intentional? It works, I was just curious.

          Hi Ian,
The image is a converted color shot, converted to a toned/tinted mono image to try to emulate a chemically toned D/Room image a friend of mine used to produce from film. I am not sure what chemical he used. Here is a straight mono version.

Could be Ansco Toner 241 which gives a blue tone to B&W prints.

              Hi Tinka,

For a begginer, as you claim yourself to be, this photo is extremely nice.
Personally I don't care for the color effect so much. My main observation is for the scene/theme. So I think this photo would look very nice in color, in duotone, in B&W, in Sepia or in Aged Newspaper, etc.

As far as the person in the scene is concerned, the photo is OK as long as the person in it, is within the 2/3 of the full frame, from left or from right and also not cut in the sides of course (though from the position of the person in the frame, the photo can be interpeted in different ways, but this is not the main concern now).

All in all, a very nice photo, taken intentionally or accidentaly (I want to believe it was intentionally) in the right time moment, where the sea is sparkling from the sun rays (meaning the sun is somewhere sideways, possibly early morning, or late afternoon) and the visible back side of the human figure is shadowed.

I will agree with the other users for the horizon alignment, but this is something that can be fixed later in some image editor. The most important is that the main theme/scene was captured in the right place at the right time and that is what matters to me most.

I saw your photo as I was navigating the gallery yesterday and caught my attention too. Personaly, I would like to se also the normal color version too.

Also remember that good photos can be taken by anybody (intentionally from professionals, accidentaly from begginer/amateurs, but anyway can be captured from both!

              Regards

              George

Thank you George and every one who has commented, I am greatly encouraged and grateful for all your input. The image was taken in the late evening if I remember rightly, The figure/person is my good lady wife, who had strolled onto the beach and was walking away to my right when I spotted the potential of a shot and took a grab shot just before she turned and called me, I was standing on a concrete ramp at the time as I refuse to use my camera on the beach due to a previous disaster some years ago.
I consider myself a beginner as I have always been drawn to photography and been a happy snapper of family photos and holiday photos, useing 35mm film compacts and an old 35mm film slr/ also I dabbled in medium format useing a clunky old Lubitol, I have only just become a more serious Hobbyist as I now have a little more time.

                  Thank you all,

                    Re: A Quiet Walk

I like the blue overtone here, and the little definition still visible in the person walking. Nice to see and feel him/her walking. But , although the subject is on a good strong node, it needs some space to walk into, at least another third the width of the frame on the right. The easiest to explain is if the person was turned around, and walking out of the frame instead of into it, the balance in the frame would have been "right" im my opinion.
These are subjective opinions, and you should see it as suc, just opinions, not rules.

                      Hello Tinka
I see what you are after but I must say I'm finding it difficult to get into this one. The toning I honestly dislike and I think a B/W would suit more. But there is just something missing and I am missing the mood that is often found in this type of 'person alone on the beach' shot. I agree with Callie about the lack of space to walk int etc.

I really like this! I think the colour cast works.

I also like the composition, and agree on the horizon needing straightening.
