I wonder I how long the purchasers of the new Nikon 300d & 3D will have to wait after the cameras launch.

I must confess when I tried Dx0 (free trial) I found it confusing to use and little folders all over the place. Might have a look at this new version and see if I find it more intuitive.

Re: DxO announces availability DxO Optics Pro v5 Software for Windows

Well I manged to download it before, or so it appears to me at least, their website crashed / was taken off-line.

True it has the 40D capability at last but, according to the forum, only with a very limited number of lenses at the moment. It looks like it covers my 17-85mm workhorse though, so that's good (for me at least ).

The interface is different from the 4.x version but not hugely so, it shouldn't take too long to get the hang of it if you're familiar with the previous version. Have to accept it could be a little daunting if you've not used it before.

I'm sitting here waiting for my first test batch to cook and one thing I will say is that it's not any faster than the old version, in fact it might actually be slower! This is slightly disappointing as this version is supposedly a re-write from the ground up.

The speed may be down to my PC, I'll check the "minimum specs" when I can get back on their site. I'm running a dual core 3GHz P4 with 2GB RAM and I suspect it's the RAM that may be the issue. Unfortunately my motherboard won't take more than 2GB so it looks like I might have to upgrade and I've been trying to put that off as the PC works fine with everything else.

The results will be interesting because I'm off with conjunctivitis in both eyes! (on top of ear, throat and chest infections!) so my eyesight is slightly compromised at the moment .

Unless you start fiddling around with boo settings to limit the OS memory allocations, 2GB is considered generous for 32-bit Windows. I have a 4GB PC here and 32-bit Windows wastes much of the additional 2GB, so I'm trialling 64 bit Windows XP at the moment - so far so good, with only a couple of unrecognised hardware drivers and virtually no software incompatibility with 32-bit applications.

3GHz P4 is quite elderly in IT terms - even in dual core form

Bad luck with the conjunctivitis - nasty!
