Well, I finally got off my ass and put together a small webpage for ISO testing you all have been asking for.
So far, I'm pleasently surprised, the 10MP E-400 seems to be at least as good as the E-1, if not ever so slightly better. I also put E-1 images for comparison. Enjoy...

Hi Jon,
Presumably you are examining SHQ JPEG quality in your noise comparison? I can see quite a lot of resolution sacrificed in the noise reduction at the higher ISO settings, but all smaller sensor (Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, etc. APS size sensor) cameras exhibit this.
I don't think nearly as much processing is applied to the higher ISO images with the E-1, so you will probably see a similar level of noise, but probably less resolution is lost and you may not see that much difference in resolution between the two cameras at ISO 1600.
There are some shortcuts to key camera settings that mean you don't need to go into menus as such - use the OK button to select the currently highlighted setting on the status screen and enable direct adjustment. It's a nice system.
I'm still waiting for a production E-400 to test - should be next week.
