McLaren goes ahead with appeal

http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=41174

Oh well looks like we will have to wait a bit longer to see who will end up champion.

Oh and we now know the real reason why Lewis lost out last weekend.

Sorry but if the last one is true it will put a smile on my face till the start of the next season

I had wondered about the car being accidentally switched off - it has happened before, though I can't remember with whom...

Hamilton doesn't want to win by proxy either. Forget the intrigue, politics and bad blood, Hamilton was rightly the star of the season, even though Raikkonen went home with the silverware. It happens.

And look what your italian mate is saying Peter! A good judge of character do you think?

Here is the reason why I reckon Hamilton will make a great world champion:

Why am I not surprised with what Montezemelo says any more? I'm sure most true Ferrari fans will distance themselves from that diatribe.

TBH I'd be surprised if any driver wanted to win by proxy. Hamilton's a fiercely competitive, true racing driver and he wants to win on merit; good for him. The credibility of any driver winning a championship via the courts would be severely damaged, let alone their personal pride and sense of achievement.

...And rightly so. Raikonnen went home with the silverware because he won 6 races to Hamilton's 4, plus he didn't make any rookie errors. Whatever you think of him, he's taken the championship because in 2007 he was the best driver in a package that on numerous occasions was shown to be less than competitive (and somewhat unreliable), at least compared to McLaren's. His podium finishes and lap /sector times also demonstrate a consistency and speed that none of his rivals were able to match.

Hamilton - despite showing us all that he will eventually be one of the greatest drivers F1 has ever seen - did not deserve to win the last race because (a) he tried to re-overtake Alonso when he simply didn't need to in order to win the championship, and (b) because in his desperation and confusion, he managed to reset his ECU and set himself back by 30 seconds..........all of which took place in the race immediately following the one in which he ran into the gravel trap and lost the car on the way into a routine pit-stop. However talented he is, he lacks the maturity and experience of a world champion, which is why he'll wait until at least 2008 to show us otherwise.

He'll be the star of the show, but right now he's the newcomer with talent and potential.

didn't mansell do it at the british gp? hit the extinguisher on the last lap while in the lead.

i can fully understand mclarens stance re fuel irregularities. they've been fined £50m for alleged cheating so why not punt some of it back? if there were no performance advantage to running denser (cooler) fuel, then why have the reg in the first place?
i also agree that this is not the way to win a championship. lewis blew it in china, and alegedly, mclaren need to think of a new location for CTRL-ALT-DEL

looks like that ferrari scarlet rode up onto his glasses! maybe he saw another alonso in a parallel universe?
the mclaren mechanics are still trying to find all the toys alonso lobbed out of his perambulator during the year.

Sorry but this just goes to show why you can't trust internet reports. The planet-f1 link gives a very clear impression that Montezemelo is having a pop at Hamilton. If you read the same report on the ITV website, re: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=41172, it's a different story.

The planet-f1 report just has Montezemelo saying:

Quote:
However, he wasn't as kind to the Spaniard's team-mate, saying "youth and nervousness" contributed towards Hamilton's loss of the World title.

He added: "I must say that in the course of the season he has not always behaved exemplarily."
If that was all he said then, as you replied, most Ferrari fans would distance themselves from such "diatribe". However, in addition to the comments printed by planet-f1, the ITV report tells us that Montezemelo also said:

Quote:
he conceded that the Briton's remarkable rookie season marked him out as a formidable competitor for years to come.

"It must be acknowledged that he's had an extraordinary season: so young and in his rookie season in F1 he was in the title fight until the last race and he deserves respect," he said.
I'm sure most fans, Ferrari or otherwise, would associate themselves with such comments. Hamilton had an extraordinary rookie season, he fought 'til the end, and he deserves respect for what he has achieved. IMO, those are sound comments.

I think that the planet-f1 site has done a shameful job of misrepresenting what Montezemlo said by printing the negative but not the positive. What does the website gain by printing such false bias?
