  • Critique etc.

I would just like to compliment forum members on the depth of constructive critique that follows on from images posted.
I find it refreshing to read honest to goodness no punches pulled critique. It always seems to be accomplished without causing any offence to the poster of the image and the advice/suggestions are of help to all of us non pro's.

To often I read the same old cliches in another forum ...... 'Nice Shot' ... 'Lovely Picture' .. etc etc which isn't teaching/telling anybody anything that will help them improve their work or even think differently when out with the camera.

Keep it up guys ... I for one listen and take notice. I don't always agree but reading others points of view is in itself an education that teaches one to always have an 'Open Mind' when viewing the work of others.

Thanks Pops - and if you are like-minded, spread the word! We always need fresh input from new people

I have to say Pops I agree with you. I like to read peoples instructive views on photos.

We all know what we like and to put another view accross makes it interesting.
        Personally for me
As much as its nice to hear your photo is nice, I often put photos up to see what I could do better.
After all photography is an individuals art. So to keep learning what can make it better is a positive.

I joined this group to learn more, and going on what I've read so far it was a good move. I find some groups I've posted on before to be childish and negative with no reason, not so here.
I want constructive critism on pictures, so I can produce better the next time!

Its nice of you to say so, we do try our best but its hard sometimes to think of constructive and meaningful things to say that are more than just a pat on the back.

I do hope you will contribute yourself by commenting on others work and acknowledging others comments on your own.

We try not to offend here, though that shouldn't restrict any of us from sincere critical comment as long as that is what is asked for - the Critique board is exactly for that purpose.

                Re: Critique etc.

Hi there. Good post indeed. I would love to make a few comments about pictures that I look at on this site but I feel embarrassed if I did. I mean, who am I to comment on someone elses pride and joy, I don't think I am good enough to do so. (I was into film photography a long time ago and got right into, really loved it until some git stole all my kit-but that is for another thread..)

Have always had a camera to hand and recently got my 400D which I just love, all the old feelings are coming back now!

Back though to comments, I won't dare say anything thing good or bad for the reason I stated above.

I think it's important not to confuse one's perceived ability to take a great photo with being able to appreciate and value a photo. The latter comes naturally and for the photographer, it's hard to predict how an individual will appreciate his work. For these reasons, feel free to share your thoughts on others' pictures - I'm sure most photographers would love to know what you think of their pictures, regardless of whether or not they actually agree with your opinion

I'm not a Chef but I would compliment someone if I have a good meal or complain if it was bad. You don't need to have technical knowledge to express what appeals to you or the reverse. so come on start letting us know how our images look to you. We don't bite.

If people post in the Critique forum, essentially they should be aware that they are in for honest but polite comment from others. It should be constructive and helpful and never done in anger. It can be both positive and negative. It is not enough to say you just don't like it, that is not constructive. It is best to try and explain how you think the photo could be improved.

So if people are up for critique they post in that forum. However they should not just expect back patting. Equally if people ask for critique, they should also try to reciprocate with others, try to return the favour and effort someone has made.

WE all feel that way in the beginning ekkl: The thing is to forget the techy stuff and say just what you feel about the photo in question.
