  • Fortnightly Salon Competition No17 - Generations

Thanks to Jocelyn for running the last Salon ....

The theme for Salon 17 is 'GENERATIONS' ... (Not the 'Star Trek' ones !!)

Pretty free to do as you please here ..... Animal, Vegetable, Mineral ?? .... Old/young people/animals ... new/old buildings ?

Good luck to all who participate & thank you one & all for your kind comments! The salon ends midnight 27th May.

    ............and the Rules

    1) All photographs are to be uploaded to the photo gallery at http://dpnow.com/galleries/, they can be put in members own gallery if they wish. The resulting link generated for the photo will then be pasted into the next available space in the Salon thread.
    2) One entry per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant
    3) Entries should be "in line" within the thread (not as links to an image held somewhere else)
    4) Comments only on entries are welcome within the salon thread itself
    5) After the close the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.
    6) The curator's decision is final.
    7) Winners should be offered first refusal to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.
8.) If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the current curator may offer that "honour" to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second or third place
    9) These rules are to be copied and pasted with a new theme by the new Curator at the top of the new Salon thread with a finish date and time
    10) As with all photos posted on DPNow, copyright remains with the photographer and DPNow will not use them without permission.

    Good Luck

Child with time to investigate the view through the grill of the walkway high in the SFMoMA building, while the adult going in the opposite direction marches over without a glance down.

PS Somewhere I have a big grinning shot of William Shatner (aka Capt. James T. Kirk) at a press conference for a new telephone service he was launching at a trade show I was reporting on back in around 1989. He could turn that smile on like a light with a switch.

Well done Gina, a nice close crop shot of a 'classic Generations' photo. I've seen a similar photo done in 'filtered' black and white, .... is it a Sepia finish ?

                    Hello Jay,

Yes, the photo is slightly sepia. I decided to take the opportunity to put some real effort into this salon as it's a favourite subject of mine so thank you so much for choosing it. I had to work fast with the camera on the tripod and set to self-timer and getting my 10 month old grandson to keep his hand still for 10 seconds wasn't easy. Patience and teamwork paid off this time.

                    Cheers for your kind words.

                    Gina

What a great photo .... at the time I suppose it would appear an ordinary shot, but due to the events in the country's history, very poignant and provocative.
It makes you wonder, who and where would they be now ...

Good composition .... imho ..... two subjects,..... but the insignia on the flag,
and also the great big building in the background ....

..... really works for me ...

Thanks for sharing this one !!

It's a blackbird which has taken over my greenhouse. I've had to move all my plants out so as not to disturb her. Took this shot when she popped out to have a pee. The greenhouse is right out side my bedroom window so will be keeping an eye on her.

Great stuff - we had a blackbird pair nesting in am overgrown Ivy for several years. Used to get the moggies going, though they never got close (the Ivy was THAT thick).

Unfortunately, the Ivy was in danger of pulling the fence it was growing on down. so it had to be heavily pruned at the beginning of the year - well before nesting time.
