  • Chat here about the new DPNow photo gallery

This board has been set up for discussion relating to the DPNow photo gallery.

The gallery system is provided free of charge for you to upload and display screen-resolution images. You can create albums to sort your photos into and view the image EXIF data (shutter speed, aperture, focal length, white balance settings, exposure override, etc.) if present.

Why we introduced a gallery facility
The main reason why the gallery system has been introduced is to facilitate convenient storage on the DPNow server for you to use in order to enable you to include selected pictures in forum posts. For this reason, we do not use a commenting facility in the gallery. If you would like some feedback concerning your photos, upload them to the gallery and then use the BB code provided to insert the picture into a post within the Image insight section of the DPNow forum.

The difference between attachments and gallery images
Alternatively, you can upload your pictures directly to a forum post using the attachment facility, but this doesn't let you conveniently display the picture full size within your post. Instead you will see a thumbnail of each picture you have attached to your post. Attachments are independent of the gallery and cannot be displayed within a gallery or an album you may have created there.

The gallery can be a bit daunting at first, so if you have any questions at all about how to use its features, don't hesitate to ask here

Hi Mike, the gallery software reads embedded exif data automatically, however if for example you have at some stage done a save for web operation, this strips out the data completely. So, how did you save the file?

Mike, if you want to include EXIF data with your pics in the gallery, then you simply need to go to Image > Image Size, then put in the size you want to save as, say 800pixels wide OK, then Save as. A fairly high compression level will usually keep it under 200kb
