Fortnightly Salon: Looking Up

A Photo Salon in this context is a gallery or exhibition. It has a theme and the photographs should follow this theme, they should be displayed in order for all to see comment on and perhaps judge. The DPNow Photo Salon will be a fortnightly competition held in its own dedicated board. The thread for each salon will be stickied at the top of the board until it is finished, when it will be released for the next one. There is no prize, it is just for fun.

Like all Salons or exhibitions, it will have a Curator who will decide the theme, the start and finish time, and a winner. Their decision is final and it is hoped they will give some indication why the winning photo was chosen. The winner of the Salon will then take on the job of Curator for the next fortnightly Salon, choosing the theme and winner. It is hoped that in this way the Salon Competition will continue.

There are few rules, remember it is for fun, however there are a few we would like all to follow.

1) All photographs are to be uploaded to the photo gallery at http://dpnow.com/galleries/, they can be put in members own gallery if they wish. The resulting link generated for the photo will then be pasted into the next available space in the Salon thread.
2) One entry per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant
3) Entries should be "in line" within the thread (not as links to an image held somewhere else)
4) Comments only on entries are welcome within the salon thread itself
5) After the close the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.
6) The curator's decision is final.
7) Winners should be offered first refusal to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.
If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the current curator may offer that "honour" to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second or third place
9) These rules are to be copied and pasted with a new theme by the new Curator at the top of the new Salon thread with a finish date and time
10) As with all photos posted on DPNow, copyright remains with the photographer and DPNow will not use them without permission

The theme for the first DPNow Salon Competition is ‘Looking up’ and it is up to individuals how they interpret this. The Salon will end at 12 :00 on Oct 3rd

Re: Fortnightly Salon Competition

To get the ball rolling, as I will be the first curator, this is my effort, though it won't be included when I decide the first winner

Re: Fortnightly Salon Competition

Seems like a great idea........count me in

This was shot in my studio against a white Colorama, using a two flash-head se for the model and one to light the background. I was on a ladder, using a Canon 1D Mk2 and an EF 17-40mm F4L lens @17mm.

Needless to say, the beer was excellent

It was at a converted water pumping station in Berlin.

Re: Fortnightly Salon Competition

People "look up" to this mountain more than any other in Switzerland that I've come across. Something to do with the shape I guess. Down in the village of Zermatt, there are small groups of tourists on every street corner with cameras pointed upwards.

Re: Fortnightly Salon Competition

OK I will have a go at this. Spent a bit of time trying to see what looking up meant to me. Yes i know the clouds are blown but this seems to be the best I could come up with. Oh and you all know I am not a fan of b/w
