Well I guess we all knew something like this was coming. I do not think I will be upgrading anytime soon still over the moon with my mk11. Will be fun to see how many mk11 turn up on ebay over the next few months. Bet there will be some bargains to be had if people are happy not to have the newest camera on the block.

So you do want LIVE VIEW, I imagine.

I happened to have handled 1D Mk2 and 1Ds Mk2N for the first time while I was in Tokyo last week. At camera shops in my town, they have either no 1D's at all or even if one of them has, they are just for exhibition in the glass show window, so until now I have had no opportunity to touch and handle them.
I was really amazed to find that I could not count the fps of 1D Mk2, while trying to do so. It's possible on my 20D. Was it 8fps? - 10 fps of Mark 3 is far more than necessary, don't you think?

Seriously I forgot to add, 10 fps until "110 shots" in my first posting.
            Also 10.1 Mp.
AF seems to be newly designed.

Incidentally, I also touched and played with a Pentax K10D last week for the first time at the same shop, Yodobashi. I think I had a good day last week though I just bought some small items for PC's only -such as USB extension cables.
It was a weekday but retatively lots of people. I learned Fujifilm had a demonstration of their new S5 pro there.

              Not as much as me.

This is good news for me as I've been so tempted to get a 1Dn for quite a while but thought I'd wait a while.

I am going to get this camera, as I think, for me anyway, it will be a body I would not want to replace for years and years, if ever.

I suppose Liveview was one of the suprising bonuses for me, whilst it was not something I expected, it certainly will have its uses. The Canon site you linked to has a demo of it, along with all the other juicy titbits

Yes the 1DMkIIN has a little over 8fps, though there is a slower frame rate too which I imagine will be the same on the MkIII Believe me though, there are times where 8fps is fantastic, you just don't miss a shot. A less than 1sec burst gets you the shot and you delete the rest 10fps is just mind blowing. For people like Mick it will add a new dimension to his bird photography I imagine.

One finds it hard to believe how the focussing and metering could be made better, but well done Canon. I also notice that they have a higher bit rate for smoother gradation

Also, they have redisigned the back of the camera, gone are the buttons down the left of the screen, and I suspect they have dumped many of the 2 finger controls for scrolling, reviewing and menu navigation, which will bring it in line with the 5D, 30D etc Have to say I'm not disappointed about that

                  Hi Stephen,
10 fps like this picture? - from Canon's official site.

They made it available later than the sample images site.

Brilliant, and the ability to stay in pin sharp focus all the time.

I forgot to mention, the other thing that suprised me a little was the fact they have stuck with the APS H sensor. I was half expecting them to stop supporting it and go for the full frame. I suppose though that would have really ticked off the sports shooters

Hi Mic, there seems to be no manufacturer's suggested retail price - that is "open price". One of our sites estimates, it would be around 500K yen. Our sales tax is five percent. Much cheaper than in UK or many other countries, fortunately. - it is about 2100 UK pounds or 4100 US dollars?

That's about the same as the mk2n is selling for now. Thought it would be a bit more than that but I'm not complianing.

DPReview report a price of US$3999 As we know that means little for UK prices though

I recall Ian once said that you could buy it cheaper outside Japan. so it must be another case

It looks like Mk3 is a big change from Mk2 in many respects.
