Photo critique Here is where you can display your images and seek the comment, advice and, maybe, constructive critique of your work. Only post your images here if you are happy for frank feedback. If in doubt, use the beginners board instead. Only post your comments here if you feel you can make a constructive and polite contribution in response to what is, for some, a leap of faith in exposing their work to your critical comment.

Black Foam Core Projects

It's actually raining here on the Central Coast of California, which is quite welcome. One of my very favorite rainy day projects involves the use of sheets of black foam core board, a tripod and an adequate light source, such as a high-lumen flashlight or shop style clamp-light with aluminum reflector with the light source usually lighting the subject from an oblique angle.

When they turn out successfully the image can have the look of a complicated studio setup when in fact the objects in my photos were placed on a playing card table and the room needn't be dark to achieve the desired results.

In post, should there be any hint of the foam core board visible, a reduction in the "Levels" quickly eliminates that situation.

I find my seashell collection really "pops" against the black background. Many of these shells have been professionally polished and my be purchased online.

I hope you enjoy this "tabletop" photography post!

Tony

Re: Black Foam Core Projects

Gives us good ideas what to do on rainy days, Tony.

This is very effective, and well executed.
