  • Ceiling at the Palace of Versailles

During the Panasonic Lumix press launch day last week we were let loose on the Palace of Versailles clutching some pre production examples of the new cameras. I had a DMC-FZ8 and a DMC-TZ3. The above, with its handy 28mm equivalent wide angle zoom (28-280 10x zoom, in fact), was taken by placing the TZ3 on the floor under the chandeliers in the centre of the room (this view disguises the chandeliers rather effectively, I think). I used the delayed action self timer, for convenience

You can find all the shooting details in my gallery.

    Ian,

Do you have any full size shots of the FZ8 primarily that I'm interesting and then for the TZ3. If you do how can I see them?

      Hi,

Dianne has got a TZ1 and really likes it because it is easy to carry etc. I personally have reached a stage in my life where I like a viewfinder - and for clarity a dslr - I think it is an eye thing. Anyway all that aside most of Panasonic cameras have really quality lenses and this makes the difference. This is well shown in your picture which is really sharp and has a great saturated colour.

The chandelier fits perfectly and is well blended into the image.
I wonder, because of the perfect balance, was the centre point marked on the floor in some way.

Yes, the wooden flooring has a geometric pattern that lines up with the centre of the room - and the centre of the ceiling, where the chandelier hangs from.

Thanks Trev - also, worth pointing out is that the TZ3 was on full auto (it doesn't have PASM options, unfortunately) and the daylight was very dull and overcast.

Hi George, I'm sorting through muy shots now. Alas the weather was very overcast so my pictures will not be ideal. Also, although I was permitted to use my pictures on the site at full size, I'm obliged to point out that the cameras were pre-production samples and not with final firmware. It won't be until March or April until these cameras finally go on sale. I'll let you know once the selected shots are available for download (full size original JPEGs).

                OK Ian,

Some shots I saw from a pre-production model on one site were not good at all, but those on the Panasonic's website look nice. I believe that it will be some final firmware tunning in the camera, but whenever you have something new on the FZ8, please notify me. I'm very interesting on this camera and also in the Olympus 550-UZ.
