Re: New York's Times Square at night
What a terrific set of images Ian.
Did you take them from your hotel room window?
The detail of the people on the steps is incredible and also the horse and cart. I just love all that. Wish I'd been there.
It's interesting looking at the EXIF. It's a long time since I have used anything but auto - just lazy and I think I have forgotten how! But, I see you had the Exposure compensation at -3 - is that because of the bright lights? Also, I have never used bracketing. I think one of the reasons is my shots are usually on the move with me playing catchup. I ought to be there by myself and just play around and experiment.
I really like the workmen one too with the moving cars and the hoardings.

There wasn't much of a view from my hotel window
Yes - the deliberate under-exposure was to avoid the neon (well, LED these days) signs getting burned out. I had to really lift the shadows though. I only used -1 EV on the top image and the lights are a bit over-cooked.

Re: New York's Times Square at night
I especially like the second and third pics - both excellent exposures and post-processing.
I wish, wish WISH I could go there myself but it ain't gonna happen now so thanks for the pictures.

I must have had a senior moment with regard to the hotel room, I can see they were taken at ground level!Originally posted by Ian View PostThere wasn't much of a view from my hotel window
