Add on to my web site

I've had a web site of my photos for a few years. It's mainly of a selection of stuff that's been published arranged into loose themes.

I mainly take series of photos – photoessay's probably too grand a description.

Anyroadup, I thought I'd have a go at doing an add-on to my main web site to show some of the projects I'm doing.

So, if anyone's got a few minutes I'd like to hear what they think. I'm not too bothered about comments about the individual photos (although feel free to say they're pants) but rather if the idea is worth developing (pun).

Hi DTD,
Had a look, I like the page layout and presentation very graphic, attention grabbing and inviteing, the quality of your work make me envious, as for the images, I like your abstract thinking, any way it seems a good idea to me, most people browsing the net like variety in a website.

Re: Add on to my web site

Oh dear ... horizontal scrolling. Really should be avoided.
I see 3 of what appear to be links on the left.....last...Home...Next....
none of these appear to be active. I would also comment on the font size within the box on the left...this is a bit to small for comfortable reading.
Nice touch linking the image borders.
When the page first opened my immediate thought was that each of the images would give access to other pages containing shots themed to that image...but they don't and could be a missed opportunity for expansion of the site..
Using only the top half of the page is a bit wasteful particularly as you have enforced horizonta scrolling.
Sorry but you did ask :-)

Re: Add on to my web site

I'm using a 1280 x 960 resolution and I had to scroll quite a way to the right to see the whole page, while half the visible page below was empty. It therefore might be an idea to consider adjusting the layout to suit generic screen formats, as people don't like scrolling sideways

I like the look and feel of what's there, but it would be great to see a more rounded version with working links / buttons etc.

Just my initial thoughts

I think everyone else has hit the nail on the head, the first thing I thought was....bah....scrolling!

Super pictures though on the positive side, and I like the idea, its pretty hard hitting.

Re: Add on to my web site

Ta everyone for the comments.

Pops: The links will eventually lead to other projects, I wanted to have a tinker with the basic design to see if it works as an idea first.

I'll also be adding individual pages, so when you cilck on the picture it will take you to a bigger version. On my regular web site; www.dunni.co.uk these open in a new window. Any thoughts on that?

Horizontal scrolling seems to get a resounding thumbs down!

Re: Add on to my web site

Hi DTD, apart from the site design, I like compositions of many of those pictures. I like photo essays and hope you would continue it whenever possible. I think so especiilly after reading your comment saying, "But in Public, the image makers lose control. Context can change meanings. Seductive images can become sinisters." (hope quoted correctly- could not paste it)

Again, apart from if or not agreeable with the message, these words add also attractiveness of the exhibited pictures, I think. as it gives me a lot of hints in appreciating your pictures. A good short explanation, a nice title always gives viewers important clues for viewing.

BTW i could not find "eyes" on some of the pics, I might have just failed in doing so. - such as Labour party conference in Manchester ... or was it intentional?

Re: Add on to my web site

My first reaction was 'why the heck are we only using a quarter of the page'.
After going through the links and viewing the images I kinda got to like it. No wasted mouse movement and no eye searching. Turned out to be great.
Loved most of the images and found some very intense with exception to the 'Graphic' page. They didn't do anything for me. Still good that you included lots of variation.
