To Ian and Patrick: No, the lenses do not have stabilization. I'll try and increase the sharpness setting on the camera, also try locking up the mirror. I know that I don't pay close enough attention when I take most pictures. If I send a photo for evaluation, where do I put it?

I sent you 2 hand held photos of a pitiful flower but it highlights the difference between my Olympus camera and my Canon with the 18-55mm lens. Just not sharp, so my confidence in Canon is gone, especially with that lens. I have looked over the Nikon
D5100 and I think I will go that route. Thankyou for all your advice and patience.

If you have a duff lens why not simply change the lens, you could try before you buy. Canon L lenses are what the pofesionals use and are top quility.
I am a Canon user and use all Sigma EX lenses.

You will find a one touch button for adjusting the iso .. 200 would be good but up to 400 when the lighting isn't so good. Once you have made an adjustment the effects will be clear to see and you can adjust accordingly.
Regards the sharpening adjustment, you will find that within the menu and the procedure will be described in your booklet. Only takes half a minute.

The canon 650D is due out and might be worth waiting for and, depending on your budget, you might consider the 7D
