  • White water action from the Team GB Olympic trials

Had a fantastic (if chilly!) day at the Lea Valley White Water Centre last Saturday. I have created an album for selected shots in our Olympus-focused e-group.uk.net gallery here:

I took almost a thousand shots on the day! Here is a selection (taken with an Olympus E-5 and 50-200 and 90-250 lenses (100-400 and 180-500 equivalents) and processed from RAW using Lightroom 5 using my laptop. Looking at these on my big monitor they look a little subdued in brightness and contrast, which may be because of the not so good screen on my laptop, but apart from that I'm very pleased!

I have had a lot of very positive feedback on the e-group about these, but it has to be said that subject matter like this is relatively easy to photograph imo.

If there are any conoe/kayak experts out there - some names to link to the shots would be much appreciated!

Hi Ian, you have some good shots there. They are pin sharp.

In the past we have been overloaded with this type of shot in competitions, as we are quite near to Holme Pierrepont. I think you would do very well with these as the Judge always likes to see their eyes and you have managed that in just about all the shots.

You have some super shots there! Very exciting and dynamic.

I know nothing about canoes and kayaking myself but I know a chap on another forum who spends a fair amount of time kayaking. He's also a keen and very competent photographer.

I can't promise anything but I'll go there now and send him a PM and ask if he's willing to look in here, maybe sign up and comment.

Watch this space and fingers crossed 'Steve' will look in, sign up, comment and maybe be able to provide some names. He uses Canon kit so I imagine he'd probably comment here in DPN rather than going to e-systems - but we'll just have to wait and see.

The tight composition on the person rather than showing the technical aspect of the position of them on the course, for me really makes the images superior to what are normally presented.

Excellent work and again you have provided food for thought. Although I shall wait for it to get a bit warmer

Great shots Ian, and proof, it were needed, that you don't have to have a Ca**n and big grey lens for action pictures.
