Thumbs up Adobe Lightroom release soon?

Hi All,

It looks as though Lightroom is close to release by the hints dropping on the various Adobe forums, probably during the Mac World in February is the best guess. It is already on the Amazon.com site for pre-order at $205, which should translate to about 150/160€ or £110/120 unless we get s*****d by the exchange rates again!
At that price, and if they have managed to fit in some of the tools that the beta users have been asking for, eg a clone tool, it will be the preferred tool for plenty of photographers I am sure.

I have read this, hope they have solved the known problems as well as including new tools.

Re: Adobe Lightroom release soon?

Personally, I doubt that they will introdicue a clone tool. After all, it's a RAW converter and image database, not an image editor.

Re: Adobe Lightroom release soon?

Unfortunately Murray, a database it is not! That has been a major cause for complaint all through the beta testing. THIS
makes interesting reading.

A Beta 5 that was never released to the Public for testing, was demonstrated in the US late last year and featured cloning & healing tools.
It is said to have crashed during the demo.

Re: Adobe Lightroom release soon?

Roger

That is an interesting link. I have some book tokens to expend and I'll probably use them to get the DAM book.

Most of the link is focused on archiving. I have to admit I've been a bit more slack than I shuld be about backing up, mainly implicitly relying on my RAID-5 array. I'm more focused at the moment on trying to find the time to go through and delete all unnecessary files - and then modify my workflow to go through ruthlessly each new batch. It's just too easy to generate too many files.

Lightroom is claimed to be a database and I still think it's fair to call it that even if many are disappointed with the implementation. And of course it's only really stable Alpha software so we dont know how different the release version will be.

Patrick

That's interesting. Photoshop of course does cloning and healing by changing pixels. Presumably with Lightroom they would have to encapsulate the instructions in the sidecar file, otherwise there would have to be an irresversible change to the orginal image. Perhaps this is germaine to why it crashed at the demo. (Then again, as any software developer knows, unless you eliminate all chance, demos are always inclined to crash).

Regards,
Murray

Re: Adobe Lightroom release soon?

Hi,
Anybody know why I can't download lightroom beta 4.1,?
I have tried on numerous occasions in the last month and can only down load 6.41 mb of the 11 MB download and then it stops, the resultant download will not then install as there are files missing, Can the prog be e-mailed? or does it have to be downloaded by the person installing it?
Many thanks.
