very very sorry to hear of this news, not very fair in the overall scheme of things.
I only met Steve once but was bowled over by his friendship and willingness to be a friend and part of what I was doing. Very sad to hear this news indeed.
Top bloke in my view. I hope the best for his family and loved ones.
Although I haven't posted on this forum for some while, I have exchanged emails with Stephen on several occasions.
Stephen was one of life's true gentlemen, nothing was too much trouble and he has give invaluable assistance to both beginners and advanced photographers.
A modest man with a great enthusiasm for life and his chosen hobby.
He will be sorely missed.
RIP, Stephen.
Like Bill I haven't posted on DPNow for quite a long time now. So to receive news today from Ian about Stephen's passing was deeply, deeply shocking. I never met the great man but it was Stephen who responded to my very first post asking for critique back in 2006. His words were brief but positive and they spurred me on to continue posting and uploading photographs to the forum. Stephen was a true mentor and inspiration to all. He will be sorely missed, for sure, but remembered frequently and with great fondness. My condolences to his family and friends. God bless.
As mentioned earlier, I have been asked if there is a charity that Stephen's family have nominated for donations and indeed, there is: The Wakefield Hospice, where Stephen was cared for wonderfully for several weeks. In fact that is only part of the story as I know Kathy was given a lot of attention during that time by the hospice staff and while it was my very first visit to a hospice, I can only say that I hope that Wakefield Hospice is representative of all in the hospice movement.
This is what Stephen's brother, Peter, wrote:
With regard to charitable donations, Stephen wanted donations to be made to the work of Wakefield Hospice who made his stay with them such a good experience considering the circumstances.
Sleep well Stephen.
I only knew you from this forum especially in the distant past when I used to contribute more. You were the life blood of this forum.
I learned from here that you were an honest and good man.
Sad and doleful tidings tidings indeed. Never met him but it is always sad to hear of someone's passing that you have made aquaintance with even through the web.
RIP sir.
