Here is another batch of Paralympics shots:

Richard Whitehead at his gold medal award ceremony

1500m heat start with the now famous Houssein Omar Hassan in the blue top

Does that hand signify acknowledgement of the camera or sign that a five seconds of fame opportunity is not desired?

Remote control mini-Minis put to work shuttling discus discs.

Anothe five seconds of fame!

Pro 'togs with their big guns

Dramatic sky above the biggest McDonalds in the world

I probably have a few more to come

Re: Paralympics 2012 - post your shots here!

Probably my final contribution to this Paralympics thread (you may be pleased to hear):

When I first saw the model of the proposed Olympic Stadium I wasn't particularly wowed, but it has grown on me and the way it has been landscaped into the park is very impressive.

I'm not that fond of the ArcelorMittal Orbit from a point of view of beauty, it is undeniably a landmark and I'm quite pleased with the way this shot turned out.

We only saw this as we went out of the park and this is photographed from the wrong side You could describe it as a giant water-jet printer!

This was just about the last shot I took as we exited the Park after a memorable 12 hours there.

Re: Paralympics 2012 - post your shots here!

This is my first post on DPNow at the request of Ian. Loved the pictures from the inspiring Paralympics.

I have been one of the lucky ones who got tickets (first ballot), although my wife Barbara should take all the credit for that. We have seen many golden silver and bronze moments for GB and other countries. My main posts are on the other forum where I go by the avitar of birdboy.
http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthre...t=22644&page=2

The result of all this Paralympics interests for me is over 3,000 raw pictures

My last visit was to Brands Hatrch yesterday.
Rachael Morris coming upto to start her Bronze run.

Alex Zanardi on his last lap for Gold number 2.

This is what it must look like if you were finishing in the Bronze medal positions.

Of cousre its not all about medal winners. In my book all those who take part are gold medal winners. Its great to se those who come last get the cheers as well. This is afectiontely known as the broom waggon.

Hope you enjoy.

John

Great pictures, John - thanks for posting them here. Although the Paralympics are over now, I'm hoping a few more pictures will be added by others...

Behind the Scenes at London 2012 Paralympics

I spent a little over 3 weeks as a Games Maker Driver for the Paralympics.

I met Dignitaries, Officials, Athletes and a lot of other Games Makers.

Being behind the scenes, is a bit like being behind the camera, you get to see things from a unique perspective.
We were out of sight to those within the venues, but quite noticeable out on the roads.

Here are a few shots, that were taken more as an Aide-mémoire rather than photographs I'd use elsewhere.

At the start it's all Heathrow pick-ups

Where there is a team on hand to put the "Clients" into the next available vehicle.

There's a lot of waiting around, as flights seem to arrive in batches and quite a few teams go to the Athletes Village on the buses.

Eventually you take a client to their hotel where they are met by another part of the team that "Meet-n-Greet" and get them from the cars into the Hotels
(not sure the doormen were too happy about that)

The young lady on the left was also the name bearer for the Afghanistan Team at the opening ceremony.

While we were told not to take pictures of the clients, the PRESS were ever present, interviewing everyone they could.

Wherever we were sent there was always several of us in a queue, and many happy moments were spent exchanging funny stories...

While most Cabbies accepted the whole thing, there were the inevitable few that simply would not, and were very vocal in their opinions of us
and everything else that they disagreed with, and a few had to be "told where to go"

I did get out to one venue and managed to see a little bit of the action

But most of the time, we were waiting back stage. However there are always those that have a lot more work to do at the end of their shift.
We only had to put the cars through the car wash...

Working out of the Village was very interesting, as we did get to see a lot of the "Stars"...

As well as driving the Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles & BMWs, I also transported lots of the "Entertainers" around the park

As with all good things, it has to end and finally the last Mandeville returns back to base, and waits to be packed away...

Re: Paralympics 2012 - post your shots here!

This has been an exciting thread to go through - so much to see and so many images that contained stories.
...........................

I hope you got to keep the outfit Graham and I could do with a size 10 in footwear.

Regards. Barr1e

Yes we do get to keep the clothing, but not the car.
My trainers are size 12, and you really wouldn't want them

I did hear that one was taken home without authorization. But they all had tracking systems anyway.

Several (far more than I thought) were damaged, some were even write-offs. Fortunately, I don't think anyone was hurt.

I bought a XZ-1 specifically for use at the games (low light capability) and photographed all the vehicles I drove, before and after, as my record of not having damaged any of them
