Left the nest

Anne and I have kept a close watch on the nest and today we were pleased to see the emergence of six cygnets.

Re: Left the nest

I like this continuation series, Barr1e.

Looked like a little bullying going on between the two cygnets and the Mallard

Re: Left the nest

We have been keeping an eye on another family of swans about a mile away from those seen earlier in the series. Out of five cygnets hatched the one below is the only survivor. They seem to have moved about 3/400 metres away from the nest site as it is possible a fox, magpie, pike or heron discovered the original nest.

Reflections

Olympus EM-1 - A.mode + 12-100 lens etc - date not shown in exif as the mkll has been sent away for repairs! mk1 has now been set up

Re: Left the nest

Just dawned on me. Only one parent bird ?
Here, both parents appear to stay with the young for some time.

The male is an obstinate being - he is lazy, going in the opposite direction to the family.
He does from time to time shield the cygnets from others and the young ones appear to follow the aggression shown by the big fella! Pleasing mother is always there.

They spend an hour or so on the canal and the rest of the time on the small lake shown above.
