How about the coal fire? Hopefully that would be lit to keep the place warm on frosty days.

Our total fuel costs are down this year after changing tariff. Still all electric for everything though.

Re: Fed up

I'm just starting on my 5th tree's worth of wood. I'm not joking, I bought them off the nature reserve 'as felled' in March last year when they were having a ground clearance. I got warmer chainsawing and chopping than burning them I think.

We ordered 6x25kg bags of house coal before Christmas and we usually light the fire in the evenings if it is especially cold on weekdays or afternoon/evenings on cold weekends. We're just about to open the last bag.

Re: Fed up

Why is it Toast tastes so much better, when made by an open fire.

Also a great way to cheer yourself up on cold, soggy, dull days.

It's the embedded bits of charcoal and ash after it has fallen off the toasting fork and been rescued from the embers.

Re: Fed up

Can't get near enough to our log fire to toast anything as the dog is always there toasting herself! And she would grab anything remotely resembling toast for herself.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. The image you posted of Dibnah reminded me of our dogs always blocking the fireplace and taking over the rugs. Nice though.
