Photo critique Here is where you can display your images and seek the comment, advice and, maybe, constructive critique of your work. Only post your images here if you are happy for frank feedback. If in doubt, use the beginners board instead. Only post your comments here if you feel you can make a constructive and polite contribution in response to what is, for some, a leap of faith in exposing their work to your critical comment.

Re: Joy of Shopping

Art is In the Eye of the Beholder. not every image has to be a salon print or the Hindenberg. i could imagine my kid standing in a door laughing at me. the man is hooded so he could be Joe anyone. the camera angle is low with the groceries rolling towards the viewer. lighten up a little or do i just piss you off being around.

Re: Joy of Shopping

it's obivous that it is set up, set up to look like a candid. somebody just happened to be passing by for a "worm's eye view angle?" can't a print just be fun? maybe i should get a hobby.

Sorry you don't like my opinion, after all it is on the photo critique.
Yes a picture can be fun, but I believe it would be all the funnier if all the distractions were not there, after all being set up its all in the photographers hands.

Set up, SET UP! I just happened to be lying around on the wet tarmac with my camera when I took this shot. I do this sort of thing all the time, can't you tell?!

Agree about the bin and the drainpipe. I can crop out the drainpipe, shame about the bin.

It's supposed to raise a giggle, hope it does for some.

Cheers

Rich

I just like the fact you got down to ground level ... how many of you get down low and dirty to shoot? It makes no difference to me that it was set up, it makes a difference that you did it anyway.

Re: Joy of Shopping

I have to say that I'm with Kenny on this one - yes I guessed it probably was a setup (I wasn't 100% convinced though), but the guy in the doorway has a spontaneous looking reaction and the very fact that there are imperfections in the image that people have referred to tend to help make this look less of a setup than it might otherwise have looked. I like the result - well done Rich!

Re: Joy of Shopping

Many years ago I used to supply teenage magazines with photography for their extremely popular photo stories. At the time "Jackie" was the DC Thomson flagship teenage girls magazine and we supplied them with many, many photo stories and they added the speech bubbles.

This shot is exactly the sort of photo I would have taken to fulfil the criteria of a story. Its not art, but it tells a story and gets a laugh. IMO the bin and pipe are of no consequence and simply add to the reality of the situation. Had it been me I would have shown the face of the subject, but I can understand why you didn't here

Re: Joy of Shopping

The varied views are interesting and some comments have brightened my day. Thankyou!

I agree about the drainpipe, it's an easy fix, so here's a cropped version. Improvement?

Much stronger and concentrating on the joke, even the rubbish bin is no longer intrusive. I also feel the narrower format is a help.
