Day at the Arboretum (moved from General)

Spent Sunday at Powell Gardens near Kansas City. Hot in the 90's but very enjoyable.

Re: Day at the Arboretum

The green hues look desaturated - did you actively do this? I'm not sure it helps the picture, personally. I can see that the harshness of the sun was very challenging. Send some over to us, we need it as it now looks like summer has officially ended (that's if you can say it even started!)

Re: Day at the Arboretum

No problem - that was your preference.

If you don't mind I am also curious about the camera settings It looks like it was a bright day but the camera was set to ISO 400 and the aperture selected was f/18 - well into the realms of diffraction softening for your camera. I would recommend restricting the aperture to wider than f/8 for your camera unless you need a lot of depth of field and in this case I think there is too much depth of field - the bloom is competing too much with the background.

I do hope you find this feedback useful - I know it's not the critique board.

Re: Day at the Arboretum

Ian, all feedback is welcome. I enjoy photography very much but am not very technical minded as can be shown by my difficulty in uploading pictures. Usually when I am out taking pictures I set the camera on aperature and usually aim for a pretty wide aperature but then after the first picture I tend to forget about any settings, purposeful or accidental, and just keep on taking pictures. I do try and compose but that's about it. So if you ask me about a certain setting, chances are I will be in the dark. (NPI)

Re: Day at the Arboretum (moved from General)

No problems - I was out shooting test shots of a camera the other day and wondered why the exposure was all over the place and only then realised that spot metering was on! On top of that exposure bias had accidentally been set to -1 - very frustrating!
