Question It's that time again !

Hi everyone.
Been a while since I posted anything, thought I'd drop by.
Hopefully, with my 40D moving on to pastures new, I'll have space in the camera bag for a new lens .... but I'm torn between two ...
1) Canon 100mm f2.8L IS Macro lens
2) Sigma 150-500mm f5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM

I've read that the 100mm is an amazing lens, and Pete raved about it last time I saw him, but I really like the Sigma as well because of the reach.
I sold off my 400 f5.6L last year, and never got a replacement, and I've
tried a 100-400L and couldn't really get on with it ....

Anyone sway me either way ?

Re: It's that time again !

Two completely different lenses here. I guess it comes down to how important reach is for you for wildlife etc as opposed to closeup shots (macro) and a short reach general lens. Would be interesting to hear of which you finally chose.
Strangely enough those are the two I would like

Question Re: It's that time again !

I've got a Canon 300f4L IS, which I use with a Canon 1.4 extender, and have some result with, but feel I would like that little bit of extra reach, without having to rely on extenders .....

Thumbs down Re: It's that time again !

Well that didn't last long .... Sigma on it's way back ....

Seems to be front focusing, and the autofocus doesn't seem to want to work properly..... so off it goes ... back to the shop

Thumbs up Re: It's that time again !

Wow ....
BIG thanks to Amazon for a fantastic turn around time .....
... Replacement lens arrived this morning, just as I posted the old one back !!
How good is that .... ?

Amazing ..... Well chuffed, as after a quick test whilst chewing on my lunch, appears to be working perfectly.

One very happy bunny
