Worth repairing?

The shutter on my 5 year old Leica M8 failed last week. The general view at the club was that a well used obsolete digital camera 5 years old was barely worth the high cost of repair but I sent it to Leica anyway.

Very quickly I got the quote,

Adjust on/off lever and correct line/pixel error on sensor 160

Replace shutter and winding mechanism
Adjust shutter speed timing
Clean and adjust rangefinder
Clean and adjust all parts, test

No charge - warranty/goodwill 0

So I am going to have a fully repaired and serviced M8 for an overall cost of a bit over 200 including VAT and postage.

Well done, and thank you Leica.

I have heard before that Leica pull out the stops to give good customer service.
Let's face it a genuine Leica as apposed to the collaborative models are always worth having repaired, except in exceptional cases of repair cost being more than the value of the camera. With the M models value will always remain high if only for its collectible value.
