Re: Nokia 1020 images

Here are some more from the Nokia 1020 (see them all at http://dpnow.com/galleries/showgallery.php?cat=1184):

Cropped and verticals straightened in Lightroom 5

A friendly zombie complete with fake blood promoting a tourist attraction outside London Bridge Station. This is crop - around 50% - from the original high-res file.

Straight out of the 1020 without any post-processing apart from resizing for the web. This is a 5MP digital zoom composition.

An old gramophone player in the lobby of the Hospital Club in London's West End. Slightly cropped from the full resolution image using Lightroom.

Centrepoint, Tottenham Court Road Tube.

Although I haven't yet compared them back to back, I have a sneaking suspicion that on absolute image quality the older and original Nokia Pureview 808 is better than the Nokia 1020. The newer device has the same number of pixels but packed into a smaller sensor chip. The new sensor uses a more modern sensor design but I don't think this quite makes up for the smaller size. I'm seeing some pixel-level artefacts that seem to be the result of over-processing.

But as an overall package, the vastly-improved user interface and picture taking options makes the 1020 the better device to use and its image quality is still the best I have seen in any smartphone (apart from the 808 Pureview).
