Photo critique Here is where you can display your images and seek the comment, advice and, maybe, constructive critique of your work. Only post your images here if you are happy for frank feedback. If in doubt, use the beginners board instead. Only post your comments here if you feel you can make a constructive and polite contribution in response to what is, for some, a leap of faith in exposing their work to your critical comment.

You knew it was coming!

Hi All,

Finally managed to get round to taking a few shots today.

Critique very welcome as always. I am pretty pleased with it, but what do you think, would you do anything different?

Re: You knew it was coming!

A superb shot Ben & what a beautiful rosebud mouth Elise has! The only suggestion I would have is that considering the light source, I would've expected the Right side to be a little lighter than the left...background that is! I feel if it were lighter & perhaps grainy, that would accentuate the softness of babies skin as the very deep black seems a little harsh! Having said that, I still think its a stunning photo!

Re: You knew it was coming!

Thanks for all the comments.

The background was a little difficult Jocelyn, she was actually in her grannies arms at the time, so I had to 'fiddle' a little with the shot.

The lighting is a little fake, I used my flash with the soft box, and bounced it off the ceiling, but of course because granny (I still cant get used to calling my mum granny *lol) was leaning over her a little, it put that side of her face in shadow, so you certainly have a good eye to have spotted that!

As for grain, I really didnt want to add any, as I was trying to create an almost porcelane effect to the skin.

Re: You knew it was coming!

ooo ahh isn't she just so beautiful - I have rarely seen such a contented look on a baby's face - I know I am supposed to critique the photo here but I can't really find anything very profound to say about it except that I like it photographically as well.

Re: You knew it was coming!

Awwww it's a very nice shot. Nice one, Daddy.

She looks all peaceful and soft with peachy skin.

I reckon you could just about get away with cropping just a litle bit off the bottom to remove the part where shoulder is showing ... but it's not really essential.

Re: You knew it was coming!

I just think the photo is beautiful.

On my own, I couldn't critique it but now I have seen Pol's comment, I tested it and I think losing the hand/shoulder? would not spoil the picture.
