Photo critique Here is where you can display your images and seek the comment, advice and, maybe, constructive critique of your work. Only post your images here if you are happy for frank feedback. If in doubt, use the beginners board instead. Only post your comments here if you feel you can make a constructive and polite contribution in response to what is, for some, a leap of faith in exposing their work to your critical comment.

Lightning!

The sky is pretty active over my condo tonight. Here's one of the shots I grabbed with the Lumix.

Re: Lightning!

Fantastic. Last year in Hungary we had 40C daytime temperatures and torrential thunderstorms at night. I found the best way to capture lighting was to record a video and then freeze frame the best bits.

Re: Lightning!

Hadn't thought of that approach. I put the Lumix on a tripod and used the sports setting. I pre-pressed the shutter and tried to click as soon as the sky lit up. As you can imagine I was usually too late. This was the only other one where the lightning is visible.

This last one was amazing. No visible lightning bolts but the entire sky lit up even though it was total dark a second before.

Lightning!

Natures fantastic soft box flash. Another way to catch lightning is with a smartphone and the "TriggerTrap" APP

Re: Lightning!

nice captures pat, especially the first one!

i never had much luck with lightning. i'd usually set the camera on something like a 5s exposure, in machine gun mode and hold the shutter in. sod's law dictated that the 'best' flash would be when the shutter was cycling between shots -or- where the camera wasn't pointed
