  • Before and After - new forum board!

You can now find a new forum board here:

Post processing can transform images that might, at a glance, be considered to be without potential. This board has been created to show the before and after results of editing and post-processing. The differences can be very dramatic!

I'm inviting you to show images before and after you have edited them. I have provided some examples to get the board going with here:

    Do have a look!

At present, a technical glitch is preventing updates from this board showing on the main forum portal page, but you can access upates via the first link above in the mean time.

Re: Before and After - new forum board!

        Hi Ian -

I opened the image in Photoshop Elements.

Hit the buttons 'control + J' to layer the pic.
I then pressed the 'enhance' button on the top and chose convert to 'Black + White'. The portrait mode gave me the depth of darkness I needed for the next step.
Using the eraser tool (on the left) I brought the colours out on the flags. I clicked on the top layer pic on the right to 'merge' layers.

Then using 'control + J' I added a further layer. Using the filter button on top I chose 'Find Edges' (or another that may suit your taste).

I then flattened the layers by right clicking the top layer again and then under the image button on top chose rotate left (to taste) and cropped. From memory I left space on the original pic to allow for rotating and cropping. 16X9 suits.

        Regards. Barr1e

Thanks for the detailed instructions. I'll try to replicate them in PSE 9.0. Many years ago I had a cheap photo editing program that would convert photos to simulated pencil drawings. I've long since lost it and haven't found anything online that even comes close.

Here's an example of my condo in Vermont before and after.

Re: Before and After - new forum board!

I wish I could remember which program I had that could render those pencil drawing simulations. It was probably ten years ago. As I recall it started with the letter A but wasn't Adobe.

I've been using a free app on my iPhone called SnapSeed which is similar to Instagram. I was in the state of Washington recently and saw this view outside my motel window - not the most appealing scene. Just for giggles I took a shot of it with my phone. The result was barely discernible. I then edited it with SnapSeed. Still not a good shot but this shows the processing power of the editor.
