Olympic torch comes to Guernsey

Yesterday saw ours seafront packed out with what our media described as a crowd of 15000 people. Always difficult to get a good spot (as Ian testified in his portrayal). Here are a few from the day. Not brilliant and some heavily cropped but I hope you get the gist of the occasion. 18 different torch bearers completed the route

This is Paul who has multiple sclerosis but has done marvellous things for charity, on his way to take up his place on the route

One of our community policemen checking out the route (should he be reported for going the wrong way against the arrow?)

Part of the warm up crowd handing out flags etc

This is Ann who has trained many a Guernsey swimmer on to commonwealth games fame.

This is Luke who had the unenviable task of bearing the torch from one pier-head via pontoon type boat to the other pier. Here he is climbing the steps back up from the boat.

Lighting the Cauldron on the Prince Albert Pier in Guernsey.

There were so many other places I wished I could have been along the route that would have produced far better pictures but it was just a privilege to witness a unique occasion on our island

Re: Olympic torch comes to Guernsey

I get a strong sense of the atmosphere from your shots I know there are lots of Olympic naysayers but I think it is a great thing and the popularity of the Torch relay has fully supported this.
