When I mean perfection in the title of the this thread, it relates to the incredible and fascinating sculpting skills in those old ages that allowed that people to get the human forms in such an extraordinary way in these marvelous marbles. I love greek and roman sculptures as well as Rodin´s. I took this detailed picture because of the aesthetics of the forms, although I agree the light was inadecuate. Regards, H

It is hard to comprehend that people are so skilful as to carve this from marble or stone. I am often astounded when wandering around museums and galleries at the skill of sculptors both ancient and modern, especially in making a hard material appear so lifelike. I am with you Horacio. I particularly like to see work in progress when the human anatomy appears to be uncovered by the artist chipping away and working the marble.

Not a perfect photograph as it is a snapshot quickly taken in a gallery, but an illustration of what I am trying to express.

From a massive rock they can extract such a polished and beuatiful work. It reminds me the work of archeologists that bring to life from debris and soil the marvelous ruins of antiguity

I spotted this when we were in Lisbon a few days ago celebrating Ann1e's birthday. The city has so many shapes, patterns, old buildings and statues - this would have fitted in well.

Anne agreed, it is a wonderful image and the lighting/cropping seems to suit so well.
