36 megapixels - 13 times more pixels than the original Nikon D1 back in 1999. And I'm impressed that Nikon hasn't over-priced the D800 too. At £2400 you will see well-heeled and determined enthusiasts buying the D800 as well as pros. Anyone here thinking about getting one?

Re: NIkon D800 36 megapixel DSLR launch and preview

I have been gauging public reaction to the news of the D800 and while most seem impressed there seem to be some specific questions from less impressed individuals. One point is the lack of an articulating screen. I have to agree with that. A fixed screen is very limiting once you have experienced an articulating one. Some feel 36 megapixels is over-kill and they fear the sheer massiveness of the image files, which can be over 200MB each, uncompressed. While I think the D800 is great value for money in relation to its specification, some also expressed disappointment that they could not afford a D800. Some also felt that the D800 was a lot less exciting than the D4 - which I can understand as many of the new tech in the D4 was first seen in the D4.
