Re: bark at the.....

i also took some photos of saturn. won't post them, 'cos they are carp!
what was amazing was seeing how small it looks....about 75% of the size of the tight group of 3 stars in the centre of the M42 image. can clearly see the rings, but not the cassini divisions (gaps between rings).

on the plus side, from last night, i now know the limits of the current telescope. now, where's my credit card?

Re: bark at the.....

couple more of the moon from this evening.....

seeing not brilliant due to heat hazing from the earth.

2nd photo shows the approximate location of the apollo 11 lunar module (the red ring thingy). if you look really closely you may be able to see it. not!

shot through the 26mm EP. the hazing was too excessive through the 12mm (which i've now found).

as for the thread header.....i like my dots. also wanted to see if there were any ozzy fans here.

Re: bark at the.....

the large crater in the bottom left corner of the 2nd image is theophilus (wiki helped me here!), which is 3,200m deep and 100km across. the central mountain is 1,200m high.

so, no, you're not going to see the apollo 11 module as it's only about 6m x 6m.

Re: bark at the.....

I haven't tried this recently but may here soon if I get some calm, clear nights. This is a older shot with a E 3oo and a Rubinar 1000mm mirror lens uncropped.

It's not a fancy or expensive set up by any means. My shots of Jupiter are barely recognizable and I've only been able to sight Saturn with the eye piece attached.

It will be interesting to see if the increase in resolution of the E 5 will do anything for the Rubinar.

Re: bark at the.....

Opps my mistake. That was a old MTO 1100. This is the Rubinar 1000 on a E 330.

Forgot that I had the MTO first.
