  • i was browsing the galleries and.....

in an effort to get more photos posted into the forum, i thought it'd be cool to randomly pick a gallery and post something that caught the eye and to add a few words as to why.

so, to kick the thread off, we have this shot by horacio.

i just loved the primary colours and perfect geometry. the inclusion of the street light gives that all important clue letting us know that we are looking at a building. a great shot and one that i think most would be happy to have as part of their collection.

    over to you......

Horacio has so many excellent pictures - he has a great eye for a picture!

He'd be on Picture of the Day every week if I didn't limit individual appearances to once every three months (in order to give others a fair chance of being selected).

I think we have featured 60-70 photographers in the last year.

Horacio, when I met him and his lovely wife last summer during a visit to London, made a great suggestion of publishing an article based on portfolios of some of our best gallery contributors. I think he would be a great candidate to be the first!

definitely, however my idea for this particular thread was to randomly choose a gallery, randomly choose a page (i view 90 images per page to make it easier) and then post what catches your eye and why. this could be a good way to identify candidates for those articles.

so, who's gonna post the next stop-me-and-buy-one image? no need to form an orderly queue. just get into the galleries and let us know what stands out to you & preferably, why.

Great idea - so here's my contribution started:

From Trevor White in New Zealand (still not heard from him since the quake there).

I find this one intriguing - I wouldn't mind knowing more about the idea behind the shot

And just a reminder, Dave's idea for this thread is for us to dip into the gallery and if a shot grabs you, show it here

Interesting you should select that particular picture as I was pondering it myself this morning and trying not to think about what would happen if I tried to lift that glass ... OUCH!

It's an excellent picture. Very thought provoking, for all sorts of reasons.

There are so many to choose from. I spend a lot of time browsing the gallery.

I must say I'd already been considering posting the link to Brian's picci. It's a belter - excellent title too. Very emotive. I assume that glass is resting on an animal trap and I can't help but feel the pain of any poor creature that gets its leg caught in there.

The overall picci, for me, evokes all sorts of feelings of being trapped, caught up in a situation from which there is no easy escape. I can truly identify with RL memories of that sort of situation and emotion and I think he's done a superb job of expressing it visually.

today's random choice saw me looking through people, street, page 4 and this photo from DavidKnox caught my eye (whilst ignoring all of the excellent stuff that horacio has there )

i really like the fact you can't decide of the kid is appreciating the art or is just killing time. i'd be in the latter category

from still life, we have this shot by ryme-intrinsica

the HDR processing has been tastefully completed and really makes the image pop. composition is spot on and the inclusion of the golden & decaying leaves adds to the abandonment feeling that the photo conveys. this wouldn't be out of place as a horror movie poster.

this is a picture that really provokes lots of imaginations.

                        - a glass of gin rock (?) placed in a gin trap, the animal that get caught in could be me, the watcher of the photo

                        - the skewed composition that implies the precarious position of the person who give a glance at it

                        - the shadow of the grid might be hinting the jail which the viewer is going to be imprisoned

all in all, well caluculated setting of the picture indeed. The title "despair" hints that the viewer is thirsty and does want the gin.

i tried to browse your galleries (as an alternative to picking a gallery, i was going to pick a 'tog), but couldn't see how to get any deeper in than the photo front page - recent, most pop & random. guess i'm missing something somewhere.....

The gallery can be a bit convoluted. Maybe this link will help:

i now see that what i needed to do was click the photo on the right hand side. is it possible to change the user profile page so that clicking photos (or add a new linky) will take the viewer to the users galleries?
