Here is a summary or excerpt from an article that has just been published on DPNow:
Ian Burley visits Focus On Imaging 2010. An active and busy show. Whether you are thinking of visiting yourself or are just interested in what Ian managed to find have a look at our gallery of 26 pictures and explore.
I had planned to go Monday as I usually do, but due to circumstances went on Sunday, never again it was just too crowded. Bad enough Monday I knew Sunday would be crowded, but not like it was.
Just went to see targeted stands bought some some Baryta pearl white paper from the Tecco stand lovely paper it is too. Had enough by that time so came home.
If anything, it's busier today than yesterday. Met Josh Bear earlier today - first time we've met after all these years! He was desperate to escape home before the show parted even more cash from him - I will leave him to fill in the details!

Made my escape. I love the show. Glad I got there for 10 though as by 1 it was rammed. Great to meet up Ian.
I picked up a used canon 1000d with 18-55IS lens for my daughter at a bargin price from camera world. Ink for my epson and the kids canon. (saved about £15 on that) I Bought some A3 fine art paper (fibaprint range) from innova and a couple of packs of fine art baryta from Hahnemuhle.
I also purchased a lee "Big stopper" ND filter as I really want to try daytime long exposures and a Olympus EP2 ( note how I slipped that in at the end which was exactly what I did when my wife asked what I had bought). Just can't live without a view finder so the EP1 goes onto ebay very soon. The EP2 was £100 cheaper than internet prices so a good deal from camera world.
My advice for anyone going is take a copy of recent adverts from photo magazines or even better a way of accessing the internet to do those vital price comparisons. There were some dealers advertising "Show Prices" which in fact were more expensive than Internet deals from Park or Warehouse express.

Josh is absolutely right with this comment... I'd taken the phone that I'd been waiting about for, and saved myself several expensive mistakes (particularly in the book department).
However, I didn't buy what I set out to (apart from the remote shutter release) because I bought a bigger camera bag (again... hopefully the last!) and err..... the new Canon 550d. I was kind of thinking of upgrading from the 400d, but when I got to the Canon stand at the show I was swiftly steered away from the 1000d (too basic, apart from the video not as good a spec as what I'd got already) and, since I can't afford the 7D and Jacobs and Cameraworld were having a price war, I got a very good deal

Fantastic day yesterday, still recovering from the shock of spending that much money!
The bag I got was a Vanguard Upriser, so far it's got camera body with kit lens attached, collapsible tripod, flash and my other two lenses in there ready for a trip to Anglesey Abbey tomorrow.
And here's the first photo I took with my new camera. It's straight out of camera, just converted from RAW. I know it's a bit flat (and I've cut off the top of his ear) but my excuse is I was crackered and it had gone midnight!
Naw - I wouldn't have been able to tell with a web-res piccy
It's just that the IS version of the 18-55 is a big improvement over the original 18-55, so just in case you were in a position of needing choose...
Ian
Unfortunately they weren't doing the 18-135 on special offer but, since I got the 550d at such a good price (about £130 cheaper than Amazon and £200 less than Warehouse Express!!) I kind of bit their hand off, as did a lot of other people.
What I am looking for is a fast 11-16 or 12-20 for a wedding I'm doing for a friend - I can feel a hiring session coming on.

Hi Carol, if you don't mind me saying so, I'd be careful using such lenses for a wedding, especially group shots or with people close to the edge of the frame. You would be in danger of getting some great distortion
