Is no-one else going to bite the bullet? If I do, the subjects are going to get more obscure! :D

Re: Challenge: Where is this? IV

Well done, Ian! Curiously, there's a lighthouse depicted on one of the keystones inside, so you were already on the way there!

Over to you.

Re: Challenge: Where is this? IV

Apparently, the original plan (before Telford) was for a small aqueduct over the river with huge embankments at either end using the spoil from the tunnels, but the owner of Chirk Castle scotched the...

Re: Challenge: Where is this? IV

I think this is Telford's 1801 Chirk Aqueduct on the Llangollen Canal (70ft high). The 1846 railway viaduct in the background is 30ft taller!

Thanks. It was the hovercraft link that did it, because I'd seen the BBC item during the day!

Next to follow after a techie/esoteric balance!

Re: Challenge: Where is this? IV

Correct, Graham. The unique bit is the hemispherical protector at the end of the caponier. Darrell's Battery (WW2) is in the background.

Your turn!

Re: Challenge: Where is this? IV

That's not the only odd thing about this memorial: the cannons are 'mounted' on what looks to be a Chinese 'wheel', but it's totally impractible in artillery terms! Also, the 'Canton Bell' hanging...

Re: Challenge: Where is this? IV

Thanks for the clue, Andy.

I think this is Nottingham Arboretum (laid out 1852). It's the monument to the 59th (2nd Nottinghamshire) Regt. of Foot commemorating their exploits at the siege of...
