Call me Tommy Top'em-up but I swear this is a true story - I recorded a John Wayne film over the top of our VHS wedding video!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was 1982 and amateur video equipment wasn't...

Angry When you have a bad day....

Thought I'd take a few pictures of garden birds this morning as the sun was out.

I took 110 photos (I'm trigger happy) over an hour or so and then took my memory card to my computer. Before I...

Re: Camera support when shooting from a bird hide.

Hi Trevor,

In a word, No!

Most of the birds I've captured so far have been fairly mundane but I'm getting better at it I think. I did have 15 seconds of fame when the Essex Wildlife Trust asked...

Re: Going slightly retro...and buying used kit

Just to update the thread,

I now have a 6D (mk 1) for general / landscape work.

The 5D Mk 2 went back to Camera Jungle to part cover the purchase of a used 7D mk 2 which I bought (after...

Re: DxO Optics Pro

DxO Optics Pro used to be my RAW developer of choice until I decided to go for the Adobe Cloud subscription package, at which point I converted to Lightroom. I had always had PhotoShop in my...

Re: Perfect alignment!

Thanks Barr1e,.

The wife and I have "Gold cards" for Colchester Zoo which is viewed by many as one of the best in the country. We went down to Basingstoke yesterday to see my son and his wife and...

Re: Our walk today...

I've been using Nik filters for yonks. I thought they were good value when I paid 100+ for them... Then they made them free 😥.

I find ColorFx the most useful set, especially the "pro contrast"...

Perfect alignment!

I had to wait for these two ostriches, who were moving in opposite directions as they fed, to align to get this shot. 2 heads, 4 legs! *LOL

Taken at Marwell Zoo.

Re: All round sound

I was thinking of a backing group singing into a microphone but I take your point.

Re: All round sound

Nice images and idea Barr1e, I'm with rodbender on the left and right images being reversed so the bird is looking "in" but don't lose any sleep over it!

Re: Going slightly retro...and buying used kit

Hi Caz

Firstly, thanks for reminding me to update my insurance details!! I've been lucky so far!

I did consider the EF17-40mm as well but in the end went with the 24-105mm because I though that...

Re: Going slightly retro...and buying used kit

Bit the bullet and ordered a Canon 24-105mm L (not the mark 2 mind!). Managed to find it brand new from HDEW slightly cheaper than a mint used lens from Camera Jungle!!

It's a White box item so...

Re: Going slightly retro...and buying used kit

Thanks Garry. Yes, I'm pleasantly surprised by the optical quality of the "new" lens and I really like the 5D II. I suspect that I'll invest a bit more in full-frame gear over the next year or so...

Looks like the 28-80mm first came out in 1991! Forgot to mention it also has "proper" USM focussing too.

Going slightly retro...and buying used kit

Had a mad moment a couple of months back and bought a used Canon 5D Mark ii because I'd always wanted to try full frame. I stuck with Canon (my preferred brand since the 70's) because I have several...

Re: One for the twitchers!

Thanks guys. I tried a mainstream bird forum as well and a feral Chinese goose has also been suggested on there.

One for the twitchers!

After 3 weeks recovering from a bleed on the knee (made worse by being on warfarin!), I finally got a short trip out today. Went to the causeway over Abberton reservoir looking for small birds in the...

Re: Camera support when shooting from a bird hide.

Fair point about vibration although I've not found it to be a problem yet. The hides are Abberton don't seem to get that busy, especially during the week when I tend to go.

I've yet to try it...

Camera support when shooting from a bird hide.

Just thought I'd share this method I've recently started using when shooting from hides.

I recently bought a gimbal head to make shooting with my Sigma 150-600m a lot more manageable (one of the...
