Re: Server move around 8AM on Monday 17th July

As someone who's currently doing a server migration, I can sympathise with your issues. I have several websites to move and, as the old server is running old versions of PHP/Apache/MySQL/etc., and...

Re: Microsoft says you didn't use it so you lose it

As someone who's just bought his first Windows Phone, I don't know much about their apps - but I have already noticed that some pre-installed apps (such as Health & Fitness) don't work because...

Re: Windows 8 - anyone here tried it, or thinking about it?

I just noticed that Microsoft have chosen to ruin the functionality of OneDrive on Windows 10. My OneDrive is due for renewal soon, and I've been agonising between keeping Dropbox, or switching over...

Re: Windows 8 - anyone here tried it, or thinking about it?

I've upgraded my two non-essential tablets so far, but haven't had much time to get to grips with them. Windows 10 looks okay now that I'm familiar with Windows 8.1.

However, the upgrades were...

Re: Windows 8 - anyone here tried it, or thinking about it?

I get that, and battery technology is advancing all the time so it will be something that'll eventually be overcome.

External batteries are one option (I have an Anker external battery charger...

Re: Windows 8 - anyone here tried it, or thinking about it?

I don't know about dominance, but it just seemed to me that with Windows tablets getting smaller (7" so far) and phones getting larger (up to 6" in some cases), then it's not too much of a leap to...

Re: Windows 8 - anyone here tried it, or thinking about it?

Just taken delivery of my under-£50 Windows 8.1 tablet. Makes my old favourite, my 9" Windows XP netbook, look chunky and a positive giant in comparison. I thought I'd never find a replacement for...

Re: Windows 8 - anyone here tried it, or thinking about it?

I can't believe I've been using Windows 8 for almost two years now, but I can tell you one thing. The number of times I've used "tile mode" can be counted on one hand. I've used my touchscreen...

Re: Windows 8 -my verdict

What that article says about Windows 9 is pretty much what Windows 8.1 is.

We've had a couple of new Windows 8 devices here recently (a laptop and a tablet). The first thing I do is install...

Re: Acer launches first high-res Android tablet

Interesting article given that I've just purchased an Acer Iconia W4. This "only" has the 1280x800 display with "zero air gap" technology but it looks pretty good to me.

Acer got such a slamming...

Re: Extending Drive

I sometimes find myself on the verge of running out of drive letters. Once you've switched on several external drives, some of which have card reader slots (printers even have these nowadays), and...

Re: Windows 8 -my verdict

Even XP is getting yet another extended lease of life: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-25758308 Okay, it's not much, but the old dog is still hanging on.

I have several older...

Re: Windows 8 & Spyder2

HI Raphael

That sounds a bit contradictory. If it's not supported, there seems little point in contacting support.

I would be curious to know what it is about LED backlights, wide...

Re: Windows 8 -my verdict

I've been using Windows 8 for 7-8 months now, as anyone who remembers my earlier posts on the subject will remember.

The main issues are when you first move over to it, which I believe is...

Re: Empowered by imaging

I haven't used "free WiFi" myself, mainly because I don't know where it's available but also because I have free unlimited data on my '3' phone so I don't go seeking WiFi points. I wouldn't even...

I had a not dissimilar experience yesterday when out shopping for a friend. However, I had to resort to texting because there was almost no signal in our Morrisons (in fact, the reply text she sent...

Re: Poorly printer

It's certainly true that anyone considering a new printer should check out the running costs. I did this awhile back and was staggered to find that printer manufacturers were using the same trick...

Re: Poorly printer

I used to be greatly into Epson printers due to print quality, but I jumped shipped awhile back to Brother. What won me over is that Brother printers don't rely on chipped cartridges - making it...

Re: Adobe's big gamble - goodbye retail Photoshop, Creative Suite

I know I'm not Adobe's target customer, given that I've never been financially affluent enough to buy into their products before this came about, so I'm kind of the "outsider looking in". I've...

Seems to work okay now.

The only issue I see is that there's a danger of the discussion being split.

There's already a discussion regarding the blog post itself underneath the blog article at...

Thanks, David, that seems to have worked.

It seems a bit daft that you can't just click "Reply" to reply. Instead you have to dig through the forum to find out where the blog is in order to reply...

Re: Canon's summer cashback

Why can't they just reduce the price of the product(s) instead of these "cashbacks" which require a whole wodge of terms & conditions to apply before you get your money back?

I never buy anything...

Re: Is Android the way to go for mainstream digital cameras?

That may all be true at the moment, but does it need to be true? Is the difference there just for the sake of making them different?

What I mean by that is that - couldn't the smartphone have a...

Re: Is Android the way to go for mainstream digital cameras?

What is the difference between an Android smartphone with better camera hardware, and a camera that has an Android OS? Aren't they the same thing?
