Re: Aldbury, bluebells and deer pix

I love the one of the deer - they look a little scruffy; moulting maybe?

Sunshine at Apsley Lock with the G6

It's been incredibly grey and dull - even dark in the middle of the day - here in Hemel Hempstead over the last couple of days. But this evening at about 5.30 the sun emerged for about an hour and so...

Re: Aldbury, bluebells and deer pix

Hi Barr1e - the uploading worked in the end? Sorry you had a problem - no cause yet identified :(

Lovely shots as usual. Just got back in from an hour's wandering around Apsley Lock thanks to a...

Re: Laycock Abbey

Thanks for these, David - nice to see the present day reality of that window that was immortalised by Mr Talbot all those years ago. Shame about those big ol' radiator pipes (I assume!) :)

Re: Metadata use

Of course nothing is corrected in a RAW file - but the tags need to be present to indicate what needs to be done to correct the image nominally.

Re: Metadata use

EXIF data is only part of the 'metadata' that files contain. As the complexity of cameras has evolved so has the need to include more information about the camera (and lens) settings and variables,...

Re: About emotions and landscapes

OK, I'm not confident that PNG is the best choice for photos. I read that there are problems with the way PNG manages image gamma when files are displayed. Although JPEG is a lossy system compared to...

Re: Sigma 300 f2.8

My point was that you will pixel-peep and be horrified at the rubbish image quality, even though the image might well make a passable small or medium sized print :)

Haha! You might have got away with that in the days of film! :D

Re: Sigma 300 f2.8

Teleconverters are optical compromises and the more powerful they are the more of a compromise they will be optically. I have yet to see a 1.4x converter work worse than a 2x. And yes as a rule of...

Re: About emotions and landscapes

Why do you use PNG and even TIFF? PSD is enough - and then export to JPEG for publication to Web. If you are using Save to Web, the exif data can be preserved; check the options available.

Re: Sigma 300 f2.8

Looking forward to seeing some results from this :)

Which body will you be using it with?

I am lucky in that I have both an Olympus Zuiko Digital 150mm f/2.0 (300mm f/2.0 on full frame terms)...

Re: About emotions and landscapes

Thanks Horacio for another excellent set of images :)

The first one is interesting because you have the smooth almost featureless sky separated by the jagged sharp mountains and then the...

Re: Sight and Smell

Julia's brother is a vet - I will ask him about this. I assume cataracts can be treated in dogs as they are in humans, but I would guess you'd need insurance to get this done affordably.

Re: Nikon 1 32mm f/1.2 ultra-bright portrait lens announced

I am hoping to visit a lens factory later in the summer - can't say any more than that :)

Re: Sight and Smell

Oh no, why is that? My mind is telling me that dogs don't have particularly good eyesight anyway - but I could be wrong. It may be in relation to cats' eyesight, perhaps.

Re: Leicester Sq. Tube mono

No problem - an honest opinion :)

I do like it, mainly because of the detail and textures and it's definitely abstract, so I would not expect everyone to warm to it.

That's a nice facility Paul - and from what you say it's standard so no need to install a plug-in?

Photography plug-ins for web browsers - what do you use?

By default, I use Firefox on my PCs and the main plug-in that I find very useful is FxIF - this let's me examine any metadata (exif shooting data, copyright messages, etc.) if it is present in an...
