Smile Bregagh's Dark Hedges

Took quite a few down this lane in the summer, but left them idling on the pc as I was a little disappointed when I got home. Looked at some again this weekend, and perhaps it's time, but they look...

Re: Unknown Flower 2

Yes, they are both members of the mallow family. The dark purpley maroon stigma shows up very well against the pale buttery stamens. One of nature's pleasing contrasts. :)

Re: Portrait or landscape?

Both make me feel as though I am sliding off to the left, more so in the first one. That said I prefer the portrait as it gives more depth, and if I'm honest looks like a local walk I occasionally...

Re: Flowerfly

Good macro. Brilliant colour. Who would have thought looking at an hoverfly on a gazania could make you smile. It made me smile. :)

Re: St. Peters Church - Berkhamsted

Enjoyed viewing these, and reading the bit of history - thank you. The sunlight on the altar stands out to me too, just goes to show that there's lots of light and colour in our churches. Good...

Re: Summer Rain & Mist in Assisi

Jocelyn, I think the first is a lovely, almost timeless image with your toning, in spite of the inclusion of the cars. I like the misty, heavy feel to it, though a slight rotation CW would stop me...

Re: A pile of waste or ? (nouveaux pictures).

I like them. They could be just photographs of 'waste' but I know they are not - they have been staged' but in a good way. They come across as very strong and have a sense of movement, especially the...

Re: Me & Tom

What a super sharp shot. Love the defined contrast and your little lad's eyes are captivating. :)

Re: Barcelona

That is strange .. I have just this morning been looking at Barcelona because Ryanair are doing cheap flights at the moment. I found this (http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/) site interesting....

Re: Romney Marsh

I see sun shining on those silky poppy petals. Seems a bit at odds with the cold feel from the second shot. I can see why you like the place though. By including so much sky it seems to emphasise...

Re: The word game

Your love of selective colouring works well here ... gets the point across.

Re: one from the garden

Looks like a french marigold to me too, and your photograph is much better than the one I found to show identification (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:French_marigold_1.jpg) :D

Re: Serious Frivolity

Thank you for looking and commenting. I didn't realise that so many people had such strong feelings about these masks.

Ian - I saw it on a stall in the Piazza delle Erbe, Verona. They held a...

Re: Red squirrel

When viewed on my screen, there is about " missing from the left hand side, so had to scroll sideways to see the half hazelnut, and yes it looks better without it. Beautiful little creature though...

Re: Venetian masked mannequin

Well, I can't make up my mind. I do like it, it is a photograph that holds my attention for more than a cursory glance, and makes me wonder, 'what if this or that', so it scores on that point. But...

Re: Croatian Senior Citizen

Have to agree with what has already been said, her skin tones against the stonework of the buildings looks so right. Her stance and expression indicate heat and tiredness just like the aging...

Smile Serious Frivolity

Each time I saw these masks it struck me how something so frivolous could look so serious and solemnly beautiful all at the same time. Hope that comes over in the photograph. :)

Re: Optical Illusion ??

What a super find. The sides of the street in shadow keep full attention on the 'illusion' too .... very queasy making. Mowgli is right, the people's feet look as though they are lifting with the...

Re: Arty-Clarty stuff

Pol, I really like your falling leaf photograph, but have to agree with others that in this photograph the main subject is not big enough nor isolated enough to have the same effect. However, the...

Re: Creative Presentation

What a difference a frame can make for sure. I quite like the dark frame, gives a real sense of looking through to the scene, as though through a hide. I like the darkness but perhaps it is just a...

Re: Northumbrian Bluebell Wood

Again, thanks for looking. They seem to be vanishing ever so quickly this year .. and I don't think they have been showing 'en masse' as they have done other years, but that flash of blue through...
