Re: DPNow Salon comp No 83 is 'red'

It's taken me a while to pick the winners from some excellent shot's.

For me, I had a clear winner, but 2nd and 3rd could of gone to any one of five or six shot's.

1st. Gina's Red Rose, I liked...

Re: Derelection

Not my 'cup of tea' but I do quite like the third one with the staircase.

Would be even better with a figure at the bottom of the stairs...going up.

I could imagine they would make good prints.

Re: DPNow Salon Competition no. 82 - NATURAL

It is slime dripping from the frog with a drop of water on the end. There are two of these but they don't show well after resizing.

Salon No 84 .........'Red'

Well thank's for giving me first place. I do feel a bit guilty:) having only posted it yesterday and then Ian reminding me of the salon.

Also not sure what I have to do next apart from choosing a...

Heron with Frog

Have tried to get this sort of shot for the last couple of years but never had any luck.

Anyway, I tried Friday morning...nothing. Went again Sunday morning and all of a sudden the frogs went...

Nice work Patrick, not my 'thing' if you know what I mean, but I do like these.

Re: Tips wanted

Looks like a 'white balance' problem to me. The same result I would get with my Canon using 'auto' instead of 'cloudy' or 'shade' to warm the image,
in overcast light, as it looks as though you...

Re: Lost baby blackbird?

Pol, here's a Mistle Thrush in my garden last winter.

Not the best shot as the sun went in as it came hopping towards me.

Re: Lost baby blackbird?

I can usually tell the difference now but sometimes have to get the bino's out to make sure. I think the Mistle stands more upright, seems a bit bigger and also looks more of a grey colour than the...

Re: Lost baby blackbird?

Pol, sorry but I somehow missed your c'mon but as you say it's a Songthrush. The easiest way to tell is the arrowhead shaped spots on the breast, the Mistle has rounded spots.

Neither are common...

Re: Nuthatch

Thank's Pol, putting me under pressure.:D

I thought they were the same but I've just looked at my bird guide and 'the male has more intense red/brown colour on flanks' not my words.

Bet you...

Re: Nuthatch

Nice shot's Pol, of not the easiest bird to capture well.

I've tried a few times to get the classis Nuthatch pose but have failed to get what I wanted.

That's a quality looking feeder too if...

Re: Kingfisher

It's certainly smelly when you get close up. The burrow is dug slightly uphill to let all the cr*p run down and out.

Kingfisher

Have been photographing this Kingfisher at the nestsite for a while now and this is one of my favourite shot's.

It's just dunked itself in the river as they always do every time they come out of...

Re: Feeding Buzzard

I'm sure they would have a go at any sort of carcass and I know they spend a lot of time in the fields at certain times of the year feeding on worms etc.

I've not tried anything else but a friend...

Re: Feeding Buzzard

Thank's for the comments.

Autumn, if I was putting that shot in a competition I would 'add' a bit more to the right. I say add because it's not cropped, or shorten the wing a tad.:D

Pol, I wish...

Re: Feeding Buzzard

Thank's, it took me a long time to find this spot and the background is a very long way away.

I can probabaly get away with f11 at certain times of the year. These were f7.1.
