The most charming and authentic Mediaeval Manor house I have visited and with delightful gardens. Unfortunately although a NT property as it has the donor in residence, understandably, no photography is allowed inside the property.

We just returned from a weekend trip to South Carolina where got to spend some time with my folks (both in their 90s) and my oldest daughter, her husband, and our three grandsons. As expected we took a lot of shots and happily nearly all of the shots were saved on my laptop. When we got home we discovered that I had managed to lose my wife's camera (a Canon Digital Elph) on the flight home.

We're heading out tomorrow for the Pacific Northwest and I'd like to replace the camera. What are your recommendations?

We only paid $179 for the last one and it took excellent shots and acceptable video. The optical zoom worked fine too. She'd like something comparable that isn't too complicated to use.

One of my daughters has a Lumix and is very happy with it but I understand they are a little pricier.

One Lumix model that is coming out in June looks intriguing. The LZ30 has a 35X optical zoom.

I was rummaging through some of my older albums and stumbled across this shot. From the thumbnail view I couldn't figure out what it was and then I recalled taking shots of a circus act a few years ago. It makes for an unusual shot.
I really enjoy shooting abstract shots. The next two were taken last Sunday under a large pier at Folly Beach in South Carolina. I'd love to hear constructive criticism and suggestions.

I've had a note from one member who has had a problem with an Internal Server Error here on the forum this week. I believe this was when trying to upload some images to the gallery. I haven't been able to reproduce the error but I was able to force a similar error on our Four Thirds User site when editing forum posts and we now think that has been fixed.

If anyone here experiences an error like the above, please let me know so we can fix it!

A weekend visit to Lacock Abbey was an interesting excursion, especially as it was once owned by William Henry Fox Talbot, the inventor of the "Calotype" photography process and the first person to produce a photographic negative. The oldest negative in existence is of an Oriel window at Laycock Abbey. This is my image of that exact window at Laycock:

Not quite the atmosphere of Fox Talbot's image!

More of the Abbey:

The main frontage

Two Tudor ladies (one assured me she was Anne Bolyn - complete with her head sown back on):
They say that LR5 works better with RAW files "because of there being more metadata in the files".

If this is the case then what is being stripped/left out by the processors, either in camera or post processed ???

Just ordered one instead of the nikon. I borrowed one from my local dealer to try and was mighty impressed by its crispness and bokeh, but especially the price. Almost half the nikon cost and I don't see why. Okay, it doesn't have image stabilisation but I can live with that if I'm saving £2000!
I hope.....
