Canon has just announced a firmware update has been prepared that will add some significant functionality to the EOS-7D DSLR. This is interesting because the 7D is somewhat of a veteran having been launched back in September 2009. The new firmware adds the following:
- Improved maximum burst for RAW images (up to 25)
- In-camera RAW image editing
- In-camera Image Rating
- In-camera JPEG resizing
- Maximum Auto ISO setting (ISO 400-6400)
- Manual audio level adjustment in movie recording
- GPS compatibility
- File name customisation
- Time zone settings
- Faster scrolling of magnified images
- Quick control screen during playback
Undoubtedly, many 7D owners will be pleased that Canon has released such a major update for their camera. On the other hand, cynics might ask why these improvements were necessary at all; surely Canon should have had many of these new features from the start?
It does also place a question mark over whether or not Canon will be replacing the 7D any time soon.
