Two months ago I reported that I was well into my project to catalogue all my images from the last ten years or so. Well, I'm now up to 35,000 images and I think I'm just past half way.
It's possible that I'm well past half way in actual terms as I am finding a fair number of duplicate copies of images and folders.
I'm using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom to catalogue my images, but others have pointed out to me that excellent alternatives include Microsoft's Expression Media 2 (formerly iView Media), and even Adobe Photoshop Elements, since version 3, has included a handy image database management facility that lets you key word tag your images and categorise them into general groups, like family, holiday, etc. Roxio Creator can keep your images under organised control, too. Even the latest versions of Windows offer a simple key wording facility.
I'm already reaping the benefits of cataloguing my images. It's so much easier to find images I need by simply typing in a few key words. There is no doubt that the job of cataloguing and key wording thousands of images is laborious, but the rewards are huge and I highly recommend anyone to follow my example. You won't regret it!
