View Full Version : DP Now Salon Competition no. 71 - UNUSUAL PERSPECTIVE
Thank you to ryme-intrinseca for running the last successful salon.
The theme I have chosen for salon 71 is:
UNUSUAL PERSPECTIVE
This theme is open to your interpretation, I will be looking for a different take on the subject that stands out from the crowd.
The closing date is at 12.00 Midday on 15th September. Good luck, have fun.
Here are the rules:
1) All photographs are to be uploaded to the photo gallery at http://dpnow.com/galleries/, they can be put in members own gallery if they wish. The resulting link generated for the photo will then be pasted into the next available space in the Salon thread. Please keep photos to a maximum of 800 pixels wide so people can see the whole image without scrolling.
2) One entry per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant.
3) Entries should be "in line" within the thread (not as links to an image held somewhere else.)
4) Comments only on entries are welcome within the salon thread itself.
5) After the close the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.
6) The curators decision is final.
7) Winners should be offered first refusal to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.
8 ) If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the current curator may offer that "honour" to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second or third place.
9) These rules are to be copied and pasted with the new theme by the curator at the top of the new salon thread with a finish date and time.
10) As with all photos posted on DPNow,copyright remains the photographer and DPNow will not use them without permission.
The Prize is the choice of either CF 8GB Ultimate or a SDHC 8GB Class 6 memory card.
Unofficial rule no. 11) Have fun, everyone!

Here is my interpretation of an unusual perspective and look of a roof..

Chu Chu Line - Walking to a car park, I noticed these shoes on the line.
It is not where we would usually expect to see shoes neither do we usually view them from underneath.
It also made me think what a clean and tidy person the owner of this little terraced house must be with the lovely geraniums in the boxes. These houses back on to the canal (I was the other side of the canal) and many of these houses were flooded during last years floods.

thought it'd be a bit different to get a shot of all the divers trying to get shots of the Sand Tigers, rather than taking my usual approach of getting in there amongst them all. i especially liked the shark about to pass overhead without the other photogs realising ;)

The moment I saw this I knew that I had to enter it instead of the first picture that I had taken for this challenge!
Is the crane vertical? Is the river level? True perspective or false?
Can you trust your eyes?
No processing trickery other than a crop involved I promise.

OK, here is one you can have a play with at home!
Is there anything strange about the first picture? Other than it being upside down?

Needless to say, my dear wife loves this picture of her! *LOL
You can also try flipping the eyes, it has the same effect.
Oh dear Lord ...
You mean your dear wife let you do this AND enter it into a competition? *LOL
It does meet the brief set out by UNUSUAL PERSPECTIVE though.

I was struggling to think of an image to enter for this Salon. I love the theme, but couldn't think of anything suitable. We've just spent the week on holiday in Norfolk, and I've been looking out for appropriate subjects. I think this is the most suitable that I came across - taken in Norwich Cathedral last week. This is a portable mirror, that allows you to examine the ceiling detail without getting a sore neck! It was a bit odd looking downwards and seeing the ceiling...

Some truly different perspectives - judging is going to be very difficult. One more day folks, any last minute entries out there?
Hope you don't mind Gina, but I would like to remove my original entry in favour of this one.
Gondola Abstract

Sorry Gina, but I don't seem to be able to remove my first entry, although I have deleted it from my gallery! So please ignore the shoe entry.
OK folks the salon is now closed. I will be posting the results later on today.
RESULTS - AND THE WINNER IS ...
A big THANKYOU to all 14 of you that entered this salon, it's been a great pleasure to pick out the top 3 images and I am happy to announce the following ...
1st place - Roger (rogleale)
I feel this is a really unusual perspective and deserves first place - well done Roger.
2nd place - jojo
Lovely unusual wedding photo.
3rd place - Gez
A very unusual perspective indeed unless you're a child I guess.
A special mention to Philip (PJPhoto) for the superb image of the ultra shiny floor at Johannesburg airport but I feel this would have been more suited to the theme of Reflections or something similar.
Thank you all for taking part in this salon I hope you enjoyed the theme, over to you Roger, can't wait.
Congratulations to Roger and Jojo, two great images. Thanks Gina for the really testing Competition.
Some brilliant pics there! Congrats to the worthy winners :)
Congrats to Roger, Jojo and Gez and also to Gina for a very interesting salon.

Thanks for the vote Gina, and to all those who liked my picture.
I thought that I should explain why it looked so peculiar to anyone who knows that a tower crane MUST be in the vertical.
A new bridge is being built across L'Aulne near Brest. A suspension bridge which is shaped in a semi-circle, and which is beside its suspension towers instead of underneath them - pic below. The crane is upright, the supporting pillars are leaning.
