Fortnightly Salon Competition No. 61

B O A T S

Thanks Ben for running the last competition, It was such a surprise to find that I had won as there were so many super entries.

I have chosen BOATS for the challenge this time. There are so many different types and and they are so graceful.

Because of the variety of ways people photograph boats to get them looking their best, I think it will be quite a difficult challenge.

I shall be looking for something that appeals to me whereby it looks as though members have given some thought to the taking of the image.

Deadline for entries is Midnight GMT on Tuesday 7th April, 2009

Here are the rules. Please take a moment to read them prior to shooting or uploading your submissions.

1)All photographs are to be uploaded to the photo gallery at http://dpnow.com/galleries/, they can be put in members own gallery if they wish. The resulting link generated for the photo will then be pasted into the next available space in the Salon thread. Please keep photos to max 800 pixel wide so people can see the whole image without scrolling.

2)One entry per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant.

3)Entries should be "in line" within the thread (not as links to an image held somewhere else.)

4)Comments only on entries are welcome within the salon thread itself.

5)After the close the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.

6)The curators decision is final.

7)Winners should be offered first refusal to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.

If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the current curator may offer that "honour" to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second or third place.

9)These rules are to be copied and pasted with the new theme by the curator at the top of the new salon thread with a finish date and time.

10)As with all photos posted on DPNow,copyright remains the photographer and DPNow will not use them without permission.

The Prize is the choice of either a CF 4GB Ultimate, SDHC 4GB class 6 or
two SD 2GB Ultimate memory cards.

I'm not a boat fan, I don't live near a lake or the sea so here's a boat I found on a car trip in Cyprus, far from sea worthy by the look of it and very dry!

Haven`t entered for a little while but as this topic is one of my favourites I though I would try something a little different. Here is one I took over the weekend of an electric motored model boat on the Model Yacht Pond in St Peter Port, Guernsey

So pleased to see a few more entries.

I love boats of any kind and have dozens of photos of them from the smallest (but not as small as yours Mowgli!) to the largest (the pano of the Ventura) also from the poorest, raggiest felucca to luxury yachts (gin palaces)*LOL

The salon seemed a little slow to start but now I see there is some interest. I thought boats would stimulate your imagination - there are so many ways to photograph them.

It would be nice to have a bumper entry this time, so come on look into your archives if you are not near enough to the water to photograph any atm.

Look forward to seeing more and remember, there is a good prize.

Deadline a week tomorrow.;)

D P NOW SALON COMPETITION NUMBER 61

BOATS

Thank you all for entering into the spirit of the competition – right up to the eleventh hour!

There was a wonderful variety of entries and I have deliberated long and hard over them.

The three finalists have relied on either morning or evening light to enhance their images.

In reverse order, the result is:

In THIRD Place Waiting for the Tide at Kerloc'h by rogleale.

The unusual colouring took my eye with the break in the clouds lighting up this coastal scene. I like the composition.

In SECOND Place Evening Light at Blakeney Quay by Stephen.

A beautiful scene of tranquillity; the more I look at this image the more I see.

And the WINNER is … …PTown Fishing Boats by PJPhoto.

The dynamism, composition and lighting of this entry just jumped off the page for me.

Congratulations to all the winners and now over to you Philip let’s see what you can dig up for us from your side of the pond!
