View Full Version : Canon 50 d must be on its way
I had an email today asking if I wanted to pre order the canon 50d price £1199.99. No date on it but does also link you to the canon home site. Oh and its 15 mega pixel. Also saw it can do face detection in live view.

It was released today Peter, there is loadsa info around the net. Can't understand why Ian hasn't had any press releases. Betcha he would have done a piece on it if it'd been an Olympus

Yes just looking around the net now. have even found a review on it by some guy that canon gave a test model to. I was a bit shocked that It was not news on here as well. I see it has been post about some new compacts.

That's quite a price hike from the 40D? I think I'll stick with the 40D a while longer - IIRC (I'm at work so can't check) mine's barely a year old :(
Any news on the 5D replacement?

no news on 5d replacement yet. That's the one I am interested in.
Best Regards

Strange that the 40d is not as old as the 5d. The specs for the 50d look good so the 6d or whatever it will be called is going to have match the 50d all but be full frame.
Wow thats quite a price rise from the 40d, I should think that eventually some will be available at less than that, might be worth the wait !

I think the price you are seeing is pre order. When its been about a while it will drop below £1000 on the net for sure. You would have to wait a good deal longer for it to drop down to the price we now see for the 40d. It now makes sense when you see the 1000d and where that will sit in the canon range. Bet you will see a fair few 40ds on ebay some time soon.

Unfortunately, Canon is on of a small number of companies that won't give us news under embargo in advance so we can prepare the news releases in good time.
Julia and I are on holiday this week in sunny (haha! NOT) North Wales, and as you can see we were able to put the Nikon D90 news up at the same time as everyone else. We had no warning of the Canon news and so it only went up late in the day yesterday, see:
