The "Wow" factor

Now I see plenty of potential here for everyone but you can interpret it as you will. I'd really like to see something creative and imaginative though and will be using that as a criteria when it comes to judging the winner. So think carefully about what will make yours stand out from the others and raise it above the level of the mundane

The closing date for entries will be noon GMT on 2nd June

The Rules:

1) All photographs are to be uploaded to the photo gallery at http://dpnow.com/galleries/
The resulting link generated for the photo will then be pasted into the next available space in the Salon thread. Please keep photos to a Max 800 pixels wide so people can see the whole image without scrolling

2) One entry per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant.

3) Entries should be "In line" within the thread (not as links to an image held somewhere else, any external links or photos held anywhere other than the Galleries will be deleted.)

4) Comments only on entries are welcome within the salon thread itself.

5) After the close the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.

6) The curator's decision is final.

7) Winners should be offered first refusal to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.

8. If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the current curator may offer that "honour" to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second or third place.

9) These rules are to be copied and pasted with a new theme by the new Curator at the top of the new Salon thread with a finish date and time.

10) As with all photos posted on DPNow, copyright remains with the photographer and DPNow will not use them without permission.

Enjoy

Trevor

From someone with not a lot of imagination, this topic seems really hard to me. I will have to see what others are posting so that I can get some inspiration. I suppose I really need a challenge.:)

I really think you are kidding me Audrey. I have seen some really "Wow" images in your gallery.

Well, this may not be exactly what you had in mind, but nothing says 'wow' to me like the colours and intricacies to be found in nature - be that a deep red sunset, autumn leaves, or a flower such as this one. I love purple (my hair really is the colour it is in my avatar :D ), and this caught my eye because of the delicate nature of the petals, and the way in which the yellow contrasts with it.

Yep, that absolutely right Julia!

Trevors idea of 'The Wow Factor' is bending the space time continuum!
I think I will post a picture of the Tardis! he he

(Changed the date to something reachable by mere mortals, and Timelords alike.)

Mike, is this actually what I think it is? (a furry creature and a not so furry creature) Was said furry creature of the ex- variety before it satisfied the not so furry creature? Certainly has the "Ow" factor *ipop

Nice one. I am a bit disappointed with the entries so far - only 5. I have looked in our galleries and have seen dozens of photos that would qualify as "WOW". There is not long to go.
Trev

PS the family pet, kids, scenery, grafitti, in fact anything qualifies

Yes Caz, taken from the balcony in Luxor. I was going to enter one of the statues or obelisks, I have a good on one of the crack in the unfinished one, but I like this photo. I've labelled it better now.

At least I made it down to the side of the swimming pool for mine! ;)
Note for Trevor - this isn't an entry... I've already entered once

This was one of my first attempts at portraiture. Taken a few weeks ago of a colleague and her three teenage daughters (her grumpy teenage son didn't want to be included - now I wonder why*LOL) It was taken against white blackout lining and lit with a speedlite plus diffuser. Background subsequently blown out in PS.

haha, much nicer.

Have you tried a nice subtle frame Paul. Something like using the stroke command? I usually favour a thin black white black afair.

paul.r.w

I never bothered in the past, I got these frames off a cover disk. I've never used the stroke command. Thanks for the input though and sorry to ddigit for hijacking his thread.

Well This is finally it.
Many thanks to all entrants. The images are really thought provoking and all have that elusive "Wow" factor. However there can only by one winner;

First is Pediwane. His picture was a genuine "Wow" - composition was spot on and the "god" lights were outstanding.
Second was Ryme-intrinseca for the flower. The appeal was the purity of colour and the contrast with the orange centre.
Third was Audrey. An unusual landscape. I like the way the shape of the figure echos the curve of the unusual shaped rock behind the figure.

Congratulations Pedar, your image was a deserving winner and certainly had WOW factor.

Also congratulations to ryme-intrinseca, the flower was gorgeous.

Thanks also to everyone for their congratulations on my coming third. I only returned from a holiday in Croatia last night and have only just spotted the result. It was certainly a surprise as there were so many images with WOW factor.

Thanks Trevor for running the salon and setting such a challenge.
