Fortnightly Competition SALON #39
creative Aspect
This could mean either an unusual take on something, or creative in an experimental way of exposure! It could even include manipulation! The choice is yours! This salon will end Wednesday, 30th April! Cheers & hope this will entice your creative spirit!:D

The Rules:

1) All photographs are to be uploaded to the photo gallery at http://dpnow.com/galleries/
The resulting link generated for the photo will then be pasted into the next available space in the Salon thread. Please keep photos to a Max 800 pixels wide so people can see the whole image without scrolling

2) One entry per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant.

3) Entries should be "In line" within the thread (not as links to an image held somewhere else, any external links or photos held anywhere other than the Galleries will be deleted.)

4) Comments only on entries are welcome within the salon thread itself.

5) After the close the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.

6) The curator's decision is final.

7) Winners should be offered first refusal to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.

8. If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the current curator may offer that "honour" to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second or third place.

9) These rules are to be copied and pasted with a new theme by the new Curator at the top of the new Salon thread with a finish date and time.

10) As with all photos posted on DPNow, copyright remains with the photographer and DPNow will not use them without permission.

Come on those people who love experimenting with textures, colours & different views of a subject! Different angles, aspects etc! Take a look at a normally mundane object & think outside the box! Even limbs of trees, especially old gnarled ones, have huge potential for obscure bodies etc, etc! Sometimes an object such as a fruit can take on the appearance of something else (within it!);)

I feel deep regret that Ron has decided for his own & respected reasons to withdraw his entry from this salon and site! I have great respect for members of this forum & in particular the loyal regulars & forum veterans that participate & make up this site!

This photo is a self portrait which was taken years ago but, improved considerably by modern software manipulation.

It reminds me of those tests one sees, where there is a picture within a picture....of ink spots one see Freud or Einstein or something! People who use the left side of their brain perceive differently to those who use right side! Those people who look first at Negative space & those Positive! The bit on the left hand side in positive form, looks furry or even snowlike! Fascinating!:)

This shot is one from a series that gave me a great deal of pleasure as without the manipulation it was given the picture would have not had the same level of impact, detail or colour in it. The end result had possibly more creativity injected into it than the when the image was captured

I thought this salon would enable viewers to get their teeth into some mental exercising given the wide spectrum of choice! Maybe it was toooo wide a choice!;) Thank you to those who have entered & for those who haven't yet, c'mon people now....time is running out!:D It really isn't that difficult to come up with something! Even if it's like this for example!
Oh well, for some reason this setup is not giving me the attachment option to post an example......so, how about you letting me see your examples!*LOL

Okay, well I tend to be quite 'conventional' with my photos - I get a bit jumpy when it comes to anything a bit outside the norm, to be honest. *LOL However, on this occasion I was taking sunset photos and noticed the way the light was catching the sea - so I tried something a bit more abstract. I'm almost embarrassed to submit this, but I do like to enter every time, so here we go!

I didn't know you could change your original entry in a salon. Has this always been one of the rules? This was a painting of a train???

Having read rule (2) is states ... 2) One entry per user ID only please, which must be the personal work of the entrant.

Can someone please clarify whether or not it is permitted to change your mind after submitting an entry? Ot would be very helpful.

Thanks

I see no reason why not Gina.

From my point of view, as long as the final single picture is submitted before the end of the salon, then in my opinion it should be fine.

Does anyone else object to someone changing their mind within the timeframe?

I think it has been done before.

If the rules aren't clear, then I think it should be allowed on this occasion, but perhaps the rules should be made clearer for the future.

My personal view is that the curator of the currently running salon should decide whether or not a changed entry should be allowed. I say that because it's the curator of any given salon who might feel they're being bombarded with changed entries and that could make the judging more difficult and confusing.

If I were curating a salon I must admit I'd be reluctant to allow changes. I feel it's better to take your time over an entry rather than enter something very early on then change your picture at the last minute after you've seen all the other entries.

But as I said earlier ... the curator of any given salon should always have the last word as the curator's decision is final.

I really hadn't noticed that anyone had changed their entry! Normally I would think if the person actually asked the curator of the salon beforehand it would help some!:) As pointed out however, if you give one person the opportunity to do so, it sets a precedence! Could you imagine trying to judge a constantly changing salon if everybody entered felt like swapping their entry! Quite frankly, I think Ian should clarify this one as I would say, 'ya makes your decision & ya stick to it me hearty!'

Nice one Ash! As Australia is about 10 to 12 hours ahead of the UK, we are already pm of the 30th here, so I will close this salon on my return from work tomorrow afternoon if thats okay with the general membership! I will post the results shortly thereafter! Hopefully some more people will be able to squeeze in an entry by then!:D

The winners of Salon #39 are..........
3rd place Gez...I liked your entry very much, the concept was great!
2nd place Jojo....The red flowers seemed to pop out from the background, giving it a 3D quality!
1st Place goes to Stephen! I chose this entry as the winner for its overall creativity! Superb composition! Choice of colours that enhanced the photograph's atmosphere & great presentation, which complimented the overall effect to the viewer!
Well done to you all & thank you for entering everybody!
Ben I enjoyed the humour of your entry! Quite honestly, I enjoyed everyones entries & it was quite difficult in choosing the winners!

Thanks for that Jocelyn, do you know I have only won this comp once before, so this is the second time and it was most unexpected. Anyway I've been working away this week and only found out late this afternoon, so you will all have to wait for me to set the next one in motion as I've a load of stuff to sort out from the last week.

There is one thing puzzling me though, why has this Salon had so many views? Of the recent salons its had far more views that any other. I just wish some of those lurkers who are viewing the Salon would sign up and have a go themselves :)

Congratulations Stephen, Jojo and Gez. Wonderful images and worthy 1st place Stephen.

Thanks to Jocelyn for running the salon and I look forward to seeing what Stephen has in store for us.

PS This is the second time I have typed this - the first one about 30 minutes ago - I must have forgotten to submit the reply.:\

I'm looking forward to see what you set us for the next salon Stephen! My goodness, after your comment on how many views this salon received, I had a look & noticed the incredible amount of hits! Yet there were only a dozen or so entries! I echo your sentiments Stephen in inviting some of those 'lurkers' to participate in future salons! My advice to those people is, if I as a very amateur photographer can win a salon for the second time, using cameras that aren't your fancy DSLR, so can YOU!:) It's great fun! It also inspires & encourages you to go out & do more photography! Why not share your hobby with like minded enthusiasts here & get feedback on your work in the other forums too!
