View Full Version : Vista Printer Drivers urgently required for Epson 1290

My new computer has now been returned to me for the second time. It has had the noisy Seagate harddrive replaced by a Western Digital. It also has a new outer case as the original was damaged in transit on the last return!

It seems to be better. (I need a fingers crossed smilie Julia:))

My problem is that I cannot find any Vista drivers for my Epson 1290 printer.

When I first bought my computer in December, I downloaded some drivers from somewhere and had my printer printing.

I have googled all over the place but still nothing.

I went to the Epson site and downloaded what appeared to be the correct drivers, but they were for another Epson product.

I went to speak through a messenger type tool with a technician, who informed me that Epson had not produced any 1290 drivers for use with Vista! He suggested I used the generic ones which came with my computer and e mailed me the instructions. They don't work!

People suggested to others in the same boat, that they try the USA site. They don't appear to do 1290 printers in the US only 1280!

There appears to be someone who will sell a package to do umpteen drivers, but surely this should not be necessary.

If anyone has any Vista drivers or can link me to any for my Epson 1290, I would be very grateful.

Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks Santaya, but unfortunately this is the site whereby you download a free tool so that they can tell is you need new drivers and then you have to pay for the drivers!

One more try then...forums here suggest this driver. They also suggest totally removing any old drivers you have for the printer, rebooting and installing the new drivers. Don't plug your printer into the USB port until prompted or after install. If this doesn't work, you could try the 1290S driver. Good luck.

"I went to the Epson site and downloaded what appeared to be the correct drivers, but they were for another Epson product." See my first post. The last link you gave me is where I got these drivers from, but they were not for the 1290, so I had to uninstall them as the printer was in an error state!

I'm very grateful for you trying like this, but I also wondering what others are doing. I know I am not the only person with Vista and an Epson 1290 printer.

I'll have a search for the 1290S, now.

Just installed the 1290S driver - Printer icon still showing error.

I did uninstall the previous drivers and reboot my computer.

I could be mistaken but isn't the UK 1290 The same machine as the US 1280, if this is the case and US Epson has Vista drivers they should work OK.

Worth a try don't you think?

Although NOT at an official site, I learned that "1280" was for USA and Canada, while "1290" for many other markets including UK (but excluding Japan). So I guess it's worth trying too.

If the "1290" is same as PM-880C (for A4) or PM-3500C (for A3) in Japanese market, then the official site says " use a driver attached to Vista".
So no need of downloading a new driver. I'm however not sure whether these are counterparts of the "1290". This is my simple guess after searching many times (but could not get confirmation).

I do not like they do not use same model codes world wide. I have same difficulty in reading a thread at DPNow about Epson printers.:\

I have checked Epson UK site and there is a driver epson327967eu.exe dated 17 July 2007 under the Vista listings for the 1290.

Incidentally the 1290s is exactly the same as the 1290, s is for the colour silver.

Audrey, have you tried connecting the printer, switching on and seeing what happens? Vista does have generic printer support built in and you may not need to install a driver.

I found the 1280 and 1280s in the US, but there were no Vista Drivers.

Every time I do a search on the Epson UK site, although I input Inkjet Printers, Epson 1290, Vista, and although it shows my printer, the drivers are not for the printer; they are as the attached screengrab, as you can see they are for the PIF tool?:

I have tried to find the drivers you suggest Patrick, but I can't.:( Can you give me an idiot's guide to how I can get to them please?:)

Ok this is a wild shot in the dark. It happened to me so worth a look. Go to control panel. Click on printers. When your printer icon is shown, click on it and a panel opens. In the headings click printer and a drop down menu will appear. Look to see if you have pause printing selected. After reinstalling the driver many times I found this was my problem. :o

Is your printer listed in the printers section of the control panel?

Patrick as I understand it that file is not the Driver that makes the printer work but the PIF (Print Image Framer). The UK Epson site does not have a driver listed as Audrey has found out. Also the file No you quote is wrong, it should be 317967

So I now notice, I assumed it to be the driver as it comes under drivers.
Sorry Audrey for the misleading info from me.:o

Already did that. I make sure it is empty every time, because I can't delete the icon if anything is awaiting printing and I need to delete the icon before I keep trying these different drivers.

Yes with a tick. I have just moved the usb to the front of my computer and the "New Hardware" pop-up popped up. I tried to print a test page but it wouldn't.:(

Thanks Patrick, I am not surprised that you thought that, so did I and so did Yoshi.

I am attaching another screengrab showing my printer and also showing "Status Error". I don't know what this means. Does anyone?

As you can see, there are 2 other printers. I did not install these and do not have them, so I am wondering if I should delete them - could they be a conflict?

ATM my USB is connected to the front of my computer. As soon as I plugged it in, the pop up said New Hardware Found, but it still does not print.

Can anyone tell me how I can just do a self test on the printer. I think you start with it turned off and hold certain buttons down for so many seconds and then switch on, but I can't remember or find the sequence.

Well done. Here is a manual for your printer.

ps looks like your printing request were being directed to an office document and not your printer.
