this was taken on the Mall in DC. the flags are associated with the Washington Monumemt and of course you recognize the Lincoln Memorial in the background. this may have a slight cw tilt. i will attend to that. :)
thank you for looking as always.

Very nice Jon - and another possible candidate for the current salon competition (theme: blowing in the wind (http://dpnow.com/forum2/showthread.php?t=365)) :)

Interesting photo JM. When I saw your title "Windy afternoon." I thought you had got it in the wrong forum. See here.

Stunning shot Jon, I particularly like the low angle you shot this at, adding an imposing sense to the shot. Great atmosphere!

Lovely shot. Very thought-provoking and empathetic processing.
I love the general atmosphere - the combination, in the foreground, of the apparently 'pensive' silhouettes of the people on the park pench and the other couple walking away into the now 'taken-for-granted' freedom. All very symbolic.
Excellent work imho.

Nice angle which makes it more striking..you must have been very low down for this one.
No shortage of mood and atmosphere Jon. Looks more peaceful than windy though. Maybe a few leaves scattering in the foreground was too much to ask for.
A nice b/w photograph indeed.

thank you all for your kind words.
yes, the day was quite windy. the dust was stiring and the flags were 'out there'. a few leaves would have been nice. :)
looks like i missed the competition. maybe, next time.
thanks again.

There is still time Jon - maybe Autumn would take your words above as an official entry with special dispensation? :)
Ian
It certainly would be good to have another entry, as we have had so few this time and the competition does not close until 1800 GMT today.
I await your instructions. :)
Audrey
I think this shot shouts of wind all over it and the isolated lighting you capture in the flats, benches, lamps and the dust make for superb contrasting very suited to B&W - you would be mad not to enter it into the salon.

if it's not too late i'd like to have a go at it.
i'm sorry for not responding in a timely manner to your comments. a few months ago i was diagnosed with prostate cancer. i had surgery two weeks ago and still find it hard to get up and around. sitting at a computer is especially difficult at the moment ;)
if it's too late, no problem. i will catch the next one. :)

Hi Jon,
Good luck, and a speedy recovery,
The image is great, very moody and tense. very well post processed.

Very nice capture of the scenery. The "windy afternoon" title it really fits the photo description as the wind's effects are visible and especially emphasized by that hazy look.
The person sitting in the bench and those walking in the wind make a great difference to an otherwise normal big city scenery.
